Visitors on a cottage holiday will enjoy pretty Ilfracombe, situated in a truly enviable location, lying between Exmoor National Park to the east and the stunning surf beaches of west Devon. This coastal town is a gorgeous blend of grand old Victorian villas and lovely white washed houses and cottages, with a picture-postcard pretty harbour and quayside.

During the summer season the town bustles with visitors, enjoying the shopping, harbour, cafes, bars and the continental ambience that fills the quayside. The brilliant blues of sea and sky provide a stunning backdrop to the vivid blaze of colour from the town’s magnificent floral displays. The Tunnels at Ilfracombe provides a unique beach experience, while to the east of the town children will love swimming and digging in the rock pools at Hele Bay.

Ilfracombe enjoys a carnival atmosphere throughout the holiday season, playing host to a wide variety of annual festivals including Town Crier’s, Ilfracombe Festival, Beer Festival, Fishing Festival, seafront Morris Dancing, Bird Man Festival and many more events which change annually. Many are located or begin in or around the Landmark Theatre on the Seafront.

Nearby Woolacombe’s three miles of golden, sandy, Blue Flag beach is a regular beach award winner and the main activities in this lively centre revolve around the sea. Lying between Morte Point and Baggy Point, the cleanliness of the water and facilities it offers keep visitors coming back year on year. Lifeguards patrol during the summer months, when holidaymakers and water sports enthusiasts mingle in the waves. Surfing is hugely popular here and there are no shortage of establishments for both serious lessons or a spot of one-off tuition. Woolacombe has some good restaurants and pubs and some superb walks can be enjoyed along the coast.
