The town of Tavistock in Devon is set on the edge of the beautiful Dartmoor countryside, just 15 miles north of Plymouth. Birthplace of Sir Francis Drake, to whom a monument can be visited just outside the town, Tavistock is a busy market town with pleasant riverside walks and a collection of independent and mainstream shops, theatre, restaurants and leisure centre.
Morwelham Quay, close to Tavistock is a popular tourist attraction offering a journey into a world of times past, via an award-winning museum and visitor centre based around the historic port and mine workings on the River Tamar. Costumed guides and craftsmen interpret this unique site, and a tramway escorts visitors deep into the heart of the George and Charlotte Copper Mine.
