With roots tracing back as far as the seventh century, Leominster, in the heart of the attractive Marches area where the borders of England and Wales meet, is a delightful market town straight out of the pages of history. From the beautifully preserved black and white half-timbered houses/holiday cottages to the narrow streets, alleyways and overhanging buildings, this is a delightful place to spend a leisurely afternoon. Well known for its antiques shops, there are also plenty of independent and mainstream shops, and a lively Friday market on Corn Square at the heart of town.

Those staying on a Herefordshire cottage in the area will enjoy visiting the vineyards at nearby Bodenham, Burford House and Gardens at Tenbury Wells and undertaking the delightful ‘Black and Villages Trail’, which begins in Leominster. Travel by car or  bike and discover some of the finest examples of the region’s famous half-timbered buildings on this forty-mile circuit that takes in some of the very prettiest local villages, such as Eardisland and Weobly. Enjoy fine food in country pubs en route, where home-cooked local produce is washed down with authentic Herefordshire ciders fresh from the orchards, and delay a while to pick your own fruit to take home to your Herefordshire cottage. Queensford Country Park provides a great day out with walking trails and picnic spots, whilst National Trust properties Berrington Hall, with its Capability Brown designed parkland, and impressive Croft Castle, with its gothic interior, restored walled gardens and vineyards, are both within easy driving distance of Leominster.
