A small inland town just a short drive from the popular beaches and resorts of the Isle of Wight’s east coast, Brading and its environs is the location for a number of the island’s cottage holiday attractions, including, most notably, a new £3 million heritage centre dedicated to the preservation of an ancient Roman settlement. The Brading Roman Villa consists of an excavation of twelve rooms of an ancient Roman dwelling, now protected and showcased together with ancient exhibits, such as pottery, mosaics and jewellery, which were unearthed at this historic site. On a rather less grand scale, the town’s Lilliput Doll and Antique Centre is one of the country’s largest collections of antique dolls, and enthusiasts and casual visitors alike will find something of interest.
For family fun, pay a visit to the Brading Experience, a truly eclectic collection of attractions amassed by an enthusiastic islander, which over time has developed into one of the island’s largest attractions. Here you can visit the Wax Works, the Animal Experience, a vintage vehicle exhibition in the World of Wheels, as well as a restaurant and a Factory Outlet shop to pick up big name labels at a snip of the usual price.
