When we think of spring, we think of the beautiful flowers beginning to bloom, filling gardens with bright bursts of colour.

All over the UK, the first signs of spring are well and truly in the air with blue skies, fluffy white clouds and the beautiful Easter weather we’ve just been experiencing.

One of the best places to enjoy the springtime bloom is the Lake District, where daffodils are prevalent and proudly on display, shimmering in the sunshine.

One of the most iconic images of springtime is the daffodil. These stunning, sunshine yellow flowers break through the grey of winter and remind us all that summer days are on the way. As William Wordsworth wrote in his famous poem, Daffodils:

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o’er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Nowhere are daffodils more iconic than in the Lake District, especially around Ullswater, the lake that inspired Wordsworth to write his well known poem.

At this time of year the shoreline of the lake is covered with golden daffodils, providing a striking and colourful panorama and attracting countless tourists to the area.
