Sunday Snapshots: Blackpool Illuminations

This week’s Sunday Snapshot is a glittering vista of the Blackpool Promenade under the magical Illuminations. The Blackpool Illuminations were first staged in 1912 to commemorate the opening of a new section of promenade by Princess Louise. The show was such a success that the Blackpool Chamber of Commerce decided to make the event an annual occasion and the Illuminations as we know and love them today were born. As one of the UK’s premier seaside resorts, seeing the multitude of glowing displays is a sure sign that the crisp days of autumn are on their way. Wrap up warm as you head out into the night and prepare to be dazzled! This year’s spectacle officially got underway on Friday when comedian Jonathan Ross flicked the switch with the lights shining brightly until the end of November. As the nights draw in and the temperature drops, it’s the perfect time for an autumn getaway. Spend your days crunching through fallen leaves or enjoying a bracing walk along the beach before heading home to your holiday cottage complete with roaring fire. What could be better?
