Everyone likes to pamper themselves on holiday, whether it’s with a massage to help you unwind from everyday life...
Eternally popular with families, Westward Ho! is a typically English seaside resort complete with associated attractions; amusement arcades, putting green, tennis courts, children’s playground, beach shops, snack bars, seafront pubs and, of course, holiday cottages. The two mile sandy, Blue Flag beach is its main attraction, ideal for swimming, popular with regular and kite surfers and one which is famously dotted with brightly coloured traditional beach huts redolent of a by-gone age. Facilities at the beach area are particularly family friendly, with a café, toilets, deckchair hire, first aid, lifeguard watch and lost child centre. The town was named after Charles Kingsley’s eponymous book and is known also for Pebble Ridge, an area of sand dunes home to a rich variety of insects, wild flowers and bird life lying between the sandy beach and the nearby Northam Burrows Country Park. At the latter, a Visitor Centre explains the ecology of the sea and local area.
Westward Ho! is the centre of a supremely beautiful area of Devon offering easy access to the region’s famous South West Coastal Path – upward of 600 miles of uninterrupted footpath, including easy walking for all the family, with spectacular coast and country scenery at every turn. There are many recommended short walks and strolls taking in small chunks of the route accessible from most of Devon’s popular tourist towns and villages. Of course, the whole route from Minehead to Poole can be tackled as a major journey for the more adventurous, but either way, wherever you access the path the coastal views are guaranteed to be breathtaking, whatever the season or weather.
