We understand that the British weather can be somewhat unpredictable at the best of times. But it always seems...
One of a number of elegant spa towns in Mid Wales, Llandrindod Wells prospered in the Victorian era when wealthy folk came from near and far to take the waters, and every August it celebrates its heyday with the colourful Victorian Festival. If you plan your holiday cottage stay to coincide with this extravaganza you can look forward to nine days of family entertainment, with superb costumes, parades and processions, street entertainment, fine food and drink and a superb final night firework display exploding into the night sky over the lake.
At other times of the year, the grandiose public buildings and parks ensure that the sense of history pervades modern life in the town; the Radnorshire Museum also ensures that the recent and ancient of history of the area is preserved. The National Cycling Museum is located here, and the town has some lovely green spaces for relaxation – the historic Rock Park and the Lake Park, which offers walks, boating and fishing.
Just five minutes from Llandrindod Wells enjoy retail therapy with a difference at the Thomas Shop. There has been a trading store on this site since the early 1800’s and today the Thomas Shop is an eclectic celebration of Victoriana with a shop, gallery, museum and café all recalling times past – an interesting visit for anyone holidaying in the area.
Further afield, visitors to Llandridod Wells should take a drive to the Red Kite Feeding Station at the Gigrin Centre in the nearby town of Rhayader. Witness the sky slowly fill with beautiful kites swooping in from miles around for the daily feeding sessions, in a unique and stunning encounter with these majestic birds of prey.
