Close to Kingussie and around twelve miles south of Aviemore, Newtonmore is a picturesque resort centre serving the Cairngorm National Park. As with most places in the area, outdoor enthusiasts of all persuasions are drawn here to pursue their passion, whether mountain biking, rambling, angling or golf. It’s a fine place to soak up the sense of wide, open space and the big skies of this part of the world.
Bag a Munro or enjoy a peaceful Highland glen stroll, bike along the Cairngorm Trail, indulge in a spot of trout or salmon fishing on the river Spey or play a round of golf. The town’s principal visitor attractions centre on a Highland theme; the Highland Folk Museum and the Clan MacPherson Museum are both popular attractions in town, along with the popular local Wild Cat Trail.
Beyond town, there are a host of attractions and activities. Many driving routes can take in some of Scotland’s best sights in a round day trip from the town; Loch Ness, or Cawdor Castle, one of the finest in Scotland. At nearby Kingussie, families in particular will want to make a stop at the Highland Wildlife Park, where a drive through safari brings close encounters with rare and endangered animals, as well as wild cats, wolves, snow monkeys and many others.
