Everyone likes to pamper themselves on holiday, whether it’s with a massage to help you unwind from everyday life...
Teignmouth is a great place to visit whilst on a cottage holiday. The historic port town of Teignmouth is one of the country’s best-loved holiday resorts, boasting the usual attractions of a British seaside town, including a Victorian pier. Unlike many resorts, however, Teignmouth also offers the hustle and bustle of a modern living, working port, with large ships, fishing vessels and pleasure craft navigating a delicate passage between the sea and the Exe estuary.
The seaward side of the town, locally referred to as the Den, is presided over by an elegant crescent of Georgian buildings and a promenade that, like the beach, spans the full length of the town. The Den is a large public area with manicured lawns, flowerbeds, children’s play areas, tennis courts, a bowling green and a miniature lighthouse. The lawns are often used for summer entertainment and events.
The opposite side of the town, skirting the estuary, has a different feel to it. This is the lively seaside area of the town, with fishing boats, beach huts, boats for hire and waterside inns, set against the pretty backdrop of the village of Shaldon across the water, with the hills of Dartmoor rising in the distance.
The town centre is a mixture of quaint old back streets, pedestrianised shopping areas and public spaces, which at night are illuminated by the changing colours of the ‘Making Waves’ lighting installation. Teignmouth also has parks and cliff walks, a museum, outdoor swimming pool, leisure centre, theatre, Information Centre, cafes, bars and restaurants.
