Youlgreave is a good place to visit on a cottage holiday. Youlgreave is a pretty town, well located for discovering two lovely Derbyshire dales, Lathkilldale and Bradford dale, standing as it does at the junction of the two, with the village built along a ridge separating the two rivers. Lathkilldale in particular is supremely pretty; calm and serene, with a crystal clear river running through it, it is a quintessentially beautiful English country scene and a truly stunning, peaceful place to enjoy the outdoors.
Youlgreave’s main feature is Conduit Head in the old market place; a large circular shaped tank that once formed part of the town’s water supply system. The parish church is also much visited, as one of the more interesting of those to be found in the Peak District. Youlgreave appears in the Domesday Book, and it is believed there has been a church here since Saxon times although the present building dates from the twelfth century.
