January 18th is universally known as Winnie the Pooh day. It also coincides with the birthday of the famed stories’ author, A.A. Milne, who wrote his first Pooh book back in 1926. In honour of this day, we have put together a selection of great ideas for a truly wonderful Pooh-themed day out.

Play Poohsticks at the Hundred Acre Wood

The home of Pooh and his friends, the Hundred Acre Wood, is actually based on the Five Hundred Acre Wood found in Ashdown Forest, East Sussex. Milne lived on the edge of the forest at Cotchford Farm and his son Christopher Robin Milne (who inspired the character of Christopher Robin) grew up there. Milne took much inspiration from his surroundings, including the setting for the wonderful game of Poohsticks. Take the children in search of the bridge, which is well signposted, find your perfect stick and watch it fall, before running to the other side to see whose reappears first, as Milne’s characters once did. Learn more about Pooh’s favourite food at the Quince Honey Farm

When Pooh gets rumbly in his tumbly, it means it’s time for something sweet – honey! The Quince Honey Farm in Exmoor is home to the world’s largest Honey Bee exhibition. It’s the perfect place to learn about all things buzzy; there are 18 colonies to observe, as well as talks to listen to, guided tours to appreciate and honey tasting to sample. If that isn’t enough, there’s also a big Happy Bee playhive, an indoor soft play area guaranteed to provide hours of fun for the little ones. Visit their website for more information.
