Carbis Bay Holiday Cottages
Dazzling azure seas and pale, silky-soft sands framed with lush, sub-tropical plants - you could almost be mistaken for believing that you'd landed in the Caribbean or some other far-flung, exotic destination. But no, this is Carbis Bay, a breathtaking Blue Flag beach just outside St. Ives.
It's exceptionally toddler-friendly, with around a mile of sands and hardly any surf for safe swimming and paddling. Enjoy your Carbis Bay cottage holiday in true style and hire a beach hut (great for all that essential plastic tackle), or settle for a stripy deckchair and chill out with your favourite author while little ones head off with Dad to seek treasure, nets in hands.
At low tide, take the short walk across to Porth Kidney Sands and spot seabirds at the RSPB sanctuary. Or follow the coastal path for about half an hour into St. Ives. Renowned for its piercingly bright light and frequented with legendary artists for centuries including JMW Turner, the town attracts artists, ceramists and sculptors from around the globe and is laden with galleries - don't miss The Tate or Barbara Hepworth Museum. Admire ever-changing exhibitions then break for refreshments in one of the many pavement cafés and fine dining eateries. And if you don't fancy the walk, hop aboard the train for a very scenic, 4-minute journey alongside the coast.
