Escape to the 'Forgotten Corner' of Cornwall and stay in a Cawsand holiday cottage on the Tamar Estuary, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the Rame Peninsula.
The village is an ancient smuggling retreat twinned with Kingsand, another small village a short walk away. It's a delight to explore, with pretty, pastel-painted cottages lining the quayside and narrow, winding streets.
There's a small, sheltered beach, popular with windsurfing and sailing enthusiasts - the village hosts regattas and contests. There's also fantastic sea angling (pollock and mackerel are readily hooked) and diving, with some exceptional dive sites close by.
Think sandy beaches and secluded coves, rugged cliffs and velvety parkland, stately homes and magnificent gardens, coastal walks and wonderful water sports. Don't miss a walk along the South West Coastal Path to Whitsand Bay, where five miles of sweeping sands lure surfers and body-boarders, as well as families looking to escape the crowds and find a quiet spot.
Other highlights include Mount Edgcumbe Country Park and its famous orangery, the beautiful gardens of Antony House and Whitsand Bay Golf Course, promising breathtaking sea views from manicured greens. The peninsula is also home to interesting wildlife - buzzards, peregrines, cormorants, the Dartford Warbler, Little Egret - attracting birdwatchers, artists and photographers. Or hop on a boat to Plymouth (there are regular daily crossings from the village), crammed with sights, shops and entertainment.
As evening falls, the village comes alive in a handful of inns and restaurants, welcome retreats to round off your day before retiring to your Cawsand cottage.
