  • "Lovely cottage and location BUT parking was an issue ,had a lady telling us off a few times about where we were parked !"

!!! NO PARKING WHAT SO EVER but other than that we had a lovely stay.

We are sorry to hear you had issues with parking and hope this did not spoil your enjoyment. We always find it is fine to park a car directly outside the cottage for loading/unloading but it will understandably cause issues with local residents if left any longer as it obstructs access. There are several free spaces directly opposite the Red Lion pub which is very close to the cottage and it's fine to use these at any time. If none are available there is a large public car park in the village (just a couple of minutes walk away). Parking charges apply between 8am and 6pm but for anyone staying for a week we recommend purchase of a weekly ticket for £15. This is great value as it is also valid for all other Richmondshire DC car parks. Simon Oldfield (owner) Property Owner

  • "Had a fantastic stay at Arklehurst."

Perfect location for us. Lots of lovely walks. Kitchen was a lovely entrance, very spacious and well equipped. However, may I suggest a small welcome basket. For example milk, tea, coffee, biscuits. The shop which is 3 miles does stock all the above and more. But if you arrive late due to the traffic then you’re out of luck. The house was tidy but wouldn’t say clean, there were a lot of cobwebs (that had been there a while) dust on the sides and the shower had mould on (which is obviously known about due to the mould spray that is kept in the bathroom). Overall this was a perfect location for a very quiet break. With fantastic walks and The CB Inn a few miles away for a perfect dinner experience.

Spent a lot of time in the well equpiied, spacious kitchen. Sadly it was too warm to use the lovely fire. We just found the sofas uncomfortable and my partner found the bed uncomfortable too. We know it's difficult to find a bed to suit everyone's taste though. We recommend the cottage to anyone wanting a quiet time away in a beautiful area and village.

Plenty of room, comfortable sleeping, and pub right around the corner. The only thing that could have made it better was clearer understanding of where to park. The first night all the spots in front of the pub were claimed and I could not tell what was permissable parking. But that was sorted the next day and not a big problem, but perhaps something to add to the welcome info for the future.

There is most definitely no phone signal in this cottage or the immediate area. However there is a landline for emergencies & for your use should you require it with a honesty box. The location was perfect for walks and not too far in car to the nearest village or town. We had some lovely meals in Reeth, The CB Inn was great for food and was very child and dog friendly. The Tan Hill was amazing for food and a great place for kids and dogs. I would highly recommend booking here however, the tiny village where we stayed I found the local residents not to be very enthusiastic about children staying as I'm guessing it's more of an older generations' retreat.

Just what we like, plenty of walks from the door. Comfortable accommodation and lovely to have a fire and all the sticks, coal etc provided for those cold wet evenings in June! Storage heaters also worked well. Only drawback was we had to clean oven before we could use it and no kitchen towel provided to mop up the grease. New kitchen and redecoration (since previous photos on web site ) looks great.

Definitely need darker main bedroom curtains so you don’t wake at 4.30am, and a decent reading light downstairs. Loved the heated towel rail. Heard a few crashes, bangs and voices through the wall as so quiet there, but recompensed by birdsong, owls hooting, pheasants calling and church bell counting the hours. Shame there’s no outside space, but loads of open fields and walking from front door, including lovely river walk. Had trouble with TV but the pleasant engineer resolved that (mostly!).

It is rare that fuel/kindling is supplied for a whole week - and so that too was generous and most welcome. The only thing I missed was having some outside space to sit in the sun at the end of the day but that is clear from the details so is not a criticism. Very fussy caretaker who didn't like us turning the heating down during our stay (we stayed in high summer and the cottage was boiling with the heating on full blast) and who actually entered the cottage with a workman one day while we were out and turned the heating back up after we had turned it down! We also received a lecture on having mistakenly used the wrong dustbin for our rubbish. The partition wall between this cottage and the one next door was very thin, to the extent that it was possible to hear every word being said next door when in the kitchen. Parking was occasionally an issue. Village pub was unfriendly, did not serve food, and did not allow dogs. Owing to all this, we found it difficult to relax in the cottage. On the positive side, the location is super with numerous beautiful walks from the door.
