We were meant to be a party of 6 adults, 1 baby and 2 dogs. Ended up only being 4 adults which was a good thing really as the living space downstairs would have been a tight squeeze with all of us. No cot had been left out for us or any instructions on where to find it. That said we had a lovely stay and I would go back. One of the bedroom door handles was loose and I got trapped in a bedroom. Did manage yo escape and reported the Ipswich was dealt with really quickly.

The cottage is well equipped, comfortable, warm & cosy, just right for returning after a walk on a blustery day. Just a small point, the toaster has seen better days and should be replaced as 1 side doesn't work and the other takes an age. All in all a great cottage.

  • "We had a wonderful stay in this beautiful cottage."

It's an old cottage that has been perfectly and tastefully modernised to be cosy and comfortable. The owners have excellent taste in decor, in layout and in the lovely paintings that are displayed around the house. The kitchen is equipped with just about everything you could possibly need. (A knife sharpener would make it perfect.) The beds are comfy and we had very sleepful nights. We found some gems in the bookshelf for our one rainy afternoon on the sofas. Our dog loved the morning stroll down towards the sea by Geevor Mine. My niece and I enjoyed the live music on Thursday night at The North Inn. We would love to go back again. It's definitely five stars.

  • "Another excellent stay (our fifth!"

). The cottage was as clean, comfortable and welcoming as ever. It's incredibly well equipped and perfectly situated down a very quiet lane but just a step away from the village shop, bus stops etc. The log burner is very welcome for chilly autumn evenings and saves putting the heating on. Our only issue was the very stiff & sticking front door; on several occasions we thought we were going to be unable to get back in. Even more concerning was the difficulty of opening it from the inside which could have been a fire hazard - and did not help our stiff shoulders! Otherwise, five star as ever.

  • "We had a lovely stay."

The cottage is beautiful and well-equipped and in a great location for exploring Cornwall. If we had one complaint to make it would be that there is no recycling at the cottage, despite the local council offering it free. We had to take all our stuff (plenty as we're a family of 6) to Penzance. Even then it is tricky as Tesco and Morrisons don't take it. On days when we weren't going to use the car or go to Penzance it was a problem.

Lots of extras in the cottage, high chair, freezer pack (for picnic etc). There were six adults and we never felt we were short of space in the cottage. Not a criticism but info pack needs updating as it asks residents to put out the bin on a Monday. It was not collected as there is a private collection at about 0800 hours on a Friday morning. Really handy for the North Inn where we ate on 3 nights, and we all had excellent meals. Radjel Inn even closer but only do drinks. We found the cottage was a great location for exploring West Penwith and the Lizard, with short travel times. Definitely visit Porthcurno Beach and Minack Theatre, amazing. There was no measuring jug provided, there was no kindling, there was no potato peeler. The welcome pack consisted of half a pint of milk and a packet of biscuits, not what we have experienced previously. There was no ability to recycle and there are no recycle points in or near Pendeen ( we tried ). Overall there was too much furniture making the living room feel cramped.

Thank you for your feedback and we hope you had an enjoyable stay at 14 Boscaswell Downs. With regard to the welcome pack I should clarify that this consisted of tea, a pint of milk, biscuits and fresh flowers . There is also a very generous supply of kiln dried logs. We take pride in ensuring that the cottage is very well equipped, particularly the kitchen. However, if items are missing the housekeeper is happy to replace them at short notice. With regard to recycling facilities, unfortunately this is outside our control although there are facilities in nearby Penzance. Property Owner

Our two week stay was over far too quickly! Lovely fresh flowers and welcome basket on arrival. Many fabulous walks straight from the front door - we'd highly recommend the short walk behind the village church up to Carn Eanes and also the longer walk to Pendeen lighthouse and further on to Portheras Cove. The Gurnard's Head pub a short drive away in Zennor serves fantastic food and was one of the highlights of our stay (you really must book in advance). Lil's Chippy in Pendeen is also a must both for fish and chips and the breakfast rolls. McFadden's butchers in St.Just do amazing Cornish Pasties and their sausages are the best we've had, by far. We did have issues with the heating/hot water in the property, resulting in the owner twice having to call out a plumber. The boiler was eventually fixed and in all fairness, we had great communication with Julian, the owner throughout. It might be worth noting that we had absolutely no mobile phone signal in the property and were advised by one of the locals to go to the car park opposite the Costcutter shop in order to get a signal (this is not mentioned in the listing).

  • "The cottage and its location was perfect."

Many thoughtful items provided, kitchen was well stocked with all necessary hardware, and a dishwasher! Areas for improvement would be (I) the shower cubicle in the en suite was tight for space, (2) the bedroom door and landing floor creaked loudly which made getting a 2 yr old off to sleep tricky, (3) operating the tv via Freesat was not intuitive although DVDs were plentiful. Otherwise, overall it was a lovely spot, the local Costcutter sold basic provisions and the proximity of St Just more than supplemented. The cottage provided much useful local information, in our opinion the chippy at St Just was worth the sort drive. The North Inn nearby was friendly enough but the rear of the pub looked very uncared for, and not that clean.

It was bright and attractive and felt very much like a home rather than a rental. It was in a good position, off the road in Pendeen so quiet, with very friendly neighbours, but also just a step away from the shop and pubs. The housekeeper Charlotte was also very helpful, answering a query by return before we left and popping over to switch off a very hot towel rail within hours for us (crazily the switch was in a locked cupboard). Just a few small points: we found the 4pm chech-in rather late (and confusing on the arrival details which had two times, 3 pm and 4 pm£. Secondly, it would be nice to have the bed in the main bedroom on the other wall so you could look out at the sea view. We were also concerned about the slipping door handle in that room so didn’t shut it for fear of getting locked in! Our experience with Sykes was less happy; trying to get confirmation that the cottage had non-feather bedding before paying our main balance took several increasingly desperate emails. We got there in the end but we had exactly the same problem when booking with you for another cottage in the spring where the message wasn’t passed on to the owner at all. We’re not sure if we would book another cottage with you but now we know 14 Boscaswell Downs is ok on that issue would definitely return there.

The living room/dining space was particularly pretty, and was a great place to relax at the end of the day. We found masses to do - from walking down to the tucked away beach closest to Pendeen - to day trips to the Scilly Isles from Penzance. (Park near Pendeen lighthouse for the little gem of a beach!) Tin mine history and Poldark sites are in walking distance too with stunning coast path walks, and it was useful to have a few shops at hand for when you run out of milk - and the Costcutter opens at 7! We visited a lovely National Trust garden, explored Mousehole and St Ives, saw a play at the Minack cliff theatre, and went to the Telegraph museum at Porthcurno (absolutely fascinating - with great talks and demonstrations). Our elder sons hired kayaks and paddled from Porthcurno round Land's End to Sennen, which was very exciting - and they saw loads of seals. We searched out lots of ancient atmospheric sites like St Euny's Well and Carn Euny settlement, the Merry Maidens standing stones and dolmen. The big beaches were very busy, so best to arrive early - or head to gorgeous cove.
