  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Kerrisdale."

The house is comfortable, spacious and well appointed. The conservatory was our favourite place for reading and watching a pheasant at the bottom of the garden. We have always liked visiting Dornoch and have stayed at hotels. Self catering made our week's stay more flexible and relaxing. Thoroughly recommend Kerrisdale and we are definitely booking again in the future.

  • "It was the perfect place for us to stay for easy access on foot to Dornoch for shops, restaurants, local history, etc and as a centre to explore the local area."

The south facing conservatory was really useful with sunshine from breakfast to evening. Our surprise discovery was the Tarbat Discovery Centre at Portmahomack (which I only wanted to visit because I love the name Portmahomack!). The centre is an ancient Church with a history to rival that of Iona which the trust has unearthed through meticulous archaeology over many years. The building and the Pictish exhibits are well worth a visit.

As before, it was spotlessly clean, very comfortable and extremely well equipped. The information folders were really useful, especially the detailed guides for local walks. The house is ideally located for the beach, golf course and the town.

  • "Great location in Dornoch and good size house but too many little things not right."

The kitchen has lots and lots of stuff but half of it is damaged or not usable. The pots and pans were old with scraped non-stick surfaces, cups were chipped, lamps or light bulbs were not working.... On the positive side, the issues we raised were dealt with straight away.

  • "Property is well configured for a comfortable holiday."

It has a lovely private garden. Location is excellent - for local facilities etc and for further exploration of the Northern Highlands. We would love to return to Kerriesdale. However there are a couple of concerns. 1. The Good House Keeping Guarantee led to anxiety about the condition of the kitchen work surface, the marked master bedroom carpet and some dirt in the kitchen cupboards all pre existing but what proof of that did we have? We are concerned that we may be charged for these things that were not our doing and not in our control. 2. We were not given any warning that at 8.45 am one morning a (very pleasant) young man would be trimming the hedges which was quite noisy for a period of time - some notice of this lack of privacy would have been appreciated.

  • "This is a charming house in a great location."

The local area is excellent with good pubs, good restaurants, a world class golf course and a stunning beach nearby. The house was clean and tidy on arrival and had all the facilities advertised. I would say that the washing machine is past its best, and the addition of a tumble dryer would be a bonus. The kitchen also has two freezers which for a holiday let is a little excessive; an additional fridge would possibly be more useful. Although my entire party enjoyed our stay, I would personally not book this property again (or any other) due the addition of the £300 good house keeping bond (this was not applied at the time I originally booked). For this type of bond to be enforced, I believe it is only fare to have a house keeper show a property on arrival, and then be available to inspect the property on departure, in order to verify its respective conditions.

The conservatory and large south facing grassed garden is ideal for relaxing and a great area for the kids to play. The garden is totally secluded providing excellent privacy. Good wi-fi signal throughout. Large fridge freezer is a bonus, as well as a full size dishwasher. The close proximity to the town, the Royal Dornoch Golf Course and also the beach makes it a perfect location. We will definitely be booking this property again.

  • "Cottage location and amenities, condition of bathrooms , bedrooms, furniture etc of a high standard."

We had a very enjoyable relaxing stay at Kerrisdale. The position in relation to the village and Royal Dornoch GC could not have been better. Nevertheless a couple of a little things - an information sheet on arrival perhaps advising how to engage the heating system, how to lock the various door locks, where to park and when garbage is collected would have been helpful. There was also a fair amount of bird droppings on various windows and the conservatory which we managed to wash off in most cases except for some upstairs windows. These issues were relatively minor and overall a happy comfortable week's rental.

  • "This house is dirty, so unless you fancy a whole day of cleaning when you arrive, I would steer-clear."

The kitchen is about as bad as it gets - the cupboard doors are sticky and do require cleaning, and there are unidentifiable stains in one drawer. There are two kitchen drawers full of what can only be described as junk. The crockery and glassware had to be dishwashed before use as they were so filthy, and the oven pans are so greasy as to be almost unusable. The kitchen cupboards are so full of left-over food that other guests have left behind, they are not usable - we had to leave our provisions out on the table for the whole week. The usable fridge was clean but looked new. The other rusty, mouldy, random fridge needs to be removed. The sugar canister is a sight to behold, but once you touch it, you'll need to disinfect your hand. The oven is rubbish. The washing machine drawer is full of water that smelt musty. The cupboard under the sink is not for the fainthearted. The towels had make-up stains on them, didn't smell clean and are strangers to fabric softener. The conservatory windows are not clean. The downstairs bathroom floor needs a steam clean and the shower needs attention around the edges to get rid of the black corners. There is a greasy-head stain by the top of the bath that was very off-putting. The fire-grate was full of what looked like a whole week of someone else's fire ashes - we had to clean it out on arrival before we could use it. The beds are not at all comfortable and there are no mattress protectors - just very thin and ill-fitting sheets. The pillows are ridiculously thin and the duvets are the cheapest of the cheap - new pillows, duvets and protectors are needed. Two of the single beds had dirt, dust and sweets & wrappers underneath so they don't clean under the beds. The place is grubby and appears to be just a money making exercise for the owners who seemingly don't care to offer you a decent holiday. The redeeming thing I can offer is that Dornoch is the best place in Scotland - but find somewhere else to stay when you visit there. Three stars shouldn't mean that they don't have to make an effort - it's your holiday they'll ruin. -------------------------- "Many thanks for your feedback, we have fed your comments back to the owner in order to maintain our property standards. The house was even better than my expectations being of large proportions with more than adequate facilities. The kitchen was extremely well stocked with utensils and crockery and other items you may need during your stay. Ample fluffy towels were to be found for each guest and bathrooms stocked with soap and toilet tissue. The garden is very large and completely enclosed. It is not overlooked by other houses making it a perfect place to sit and relax. We also found beds very comfortable with bedding supplied. My one issue I had was with the refuse bins outside of the house. When we arrived one was full and the other half full. On our day of departure these had still not been emptied meaning we had to take some of our refuse to the nearby recycling bins during our stay. Overall, I would definitely return to Kerrisdale and Dornoch

  • "The house really was not clean - I had to clean the bathroom floors and kitchen floor."

The oven hadn't been cleaned and had food stuck to the base of the oven which had been covered with tin foil. All the conservatory windows were covered with bird droppings which I washed down as they were horrendous. As there were no further bird droppings during our weeks stay, I can only assume it was quite sometime since it had been washed. Frankly the whole of the inside of the house requires repainting/ decorating as wallpaper is peeling off in areas. Behind the bath all the paint has peeled off. The bedroom carpets are covered in stains and require cleaning. Part of the kitchen work surface has a blistered hole in it. It is very sad as aspects of the house have potential as has the garden.
