  • "The Interior of this house was remarkable for the generous use of space and the high-end finish of all detail."

Recently renovated to a very high standard, it was beautifully appointed in every respect. The kitchen/dining room was an unusually attractive and easy space for a large number of people to socialise in while preparing a meal; the bedrooms were comfortably and tastefully furnished, with plenty of space in the single as well as the double rooms - so no member of the party condemned to sleeping in a tiny room as so often happens with holiday rentals! Much thought, expertise and expense have obviously gone into the renovation, and comfort and convenience of visitors is clearly a priority. A house which we could go back to with the confidence of knowing we will enjoy it.

We appreciate your lovely review and are delighted that you enjoyed your stay in the house. Your thoughtful comments mean a lot to us. Hopefully, you are able to enjoy a return visit in the future. You will be very welcome! Property Owner

  • "Amazing house in a super location for exploring the North of Scotland."

Loads of space, big comfy beds and lots of sofas. The best showers ever in the en-suites. Lots of kitchen items and a big fridge freezer. Great to be near the beautiful Black Isle and handy for the train. Lovely bakery and well stocked Co-op. Pretty walks from the house, and easy to get out and about.

Thank you for your extremely kind review. We are delighted you enjoyed the house and location. We appreciate your feedback and, hopefully, we are able to welcome you back in the future. Property Owner

    Apart from that : excellent

We are delighted that you had an excellent stay. We are very sorry that there was a minor issue with the upstairs lights which, as you say, was quickly fixed. We sincerely hope we can welcome you back at some stage in the future. Property Owner

  • "Wow - a beautiful property, extremely clean with very helpful management who are willingly to attend to anything that you might need."

We noted a couple of minor issues which whilst were not able to be fully resolved during our stay, did not in any way detract and we felt that the accommodation was superb. Its locality a short walk from the station meant our family were able to take a shopping daytrip to Inverness without needing to drive and park and we also used it on other occasions. Muir of Ord itself is extremely tiny and the Butchers was not open during our stay but the co-op is a few minutes walk and extremely well stocked. We pre-ordered a Tesco delivery to the property shortly after our scheduled arrival time and there is plenty of fridge/freezer space if you are planning to cook. There is everything you would want in a home from home stay which our 4 teens and 3 adult party enjoyed. Fabulous thank you!

Thank you for your extremely kind review. We very much appreciate your feedback and I have passed on your positive comments to our management team. We look forward to welcoming you and your party back some time in the future. Property Owner

  • "The Old Manse is a lovely clean, spacious, comfortable and very well equipped property in ideal location for visiting the Black Isle, Cairngorms, Inverness, Loch Ness, Fort William."

Prosecco provided on arrival (however, would have preferred milk). There was a minor problem on arrival but this was quickly sorted. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this property.

Many thanks for your positive review and recommendation, Carole. We are extremely pleased you enjoyed the house and location. If you ever wish to return, and you are more than welcome to do so, please let us know in advance and we will make sure we swap the Prosecco for milk. Property Owner

  • "Lovely property in Muir of Ord."

Excellent location for day trips to Isle of Skye, Dunrobin, Balmoral and Aberdeenshire. The house is fully modern, comfortable and has the amenities one would expect. Shopping, petrol and restaurants are all within the village with more options within 10 miles. Sykes was easy to work with and answered all questions promptly. I would recommend the Old Manse to anyone looking for a vacation rental in the Inverness area.

Many thanks for your positive and informative feedback. We are delighted you enjoyed the house and managed to take advantage of its convenient and central location. We really appreciate your comments. Property Owner

  • "What an absolutely beautiful house!"

My husband and his 2 siblings with their families took a vacation together and this was the perfect place for us. The king beds were more comfortable than our beds at home and the pillows were also comfortable. Each of us had our own bathroom and enough room to spread out. We're hoping to be back year after next and would love to rent this place again.

  • "Fabulous house in Muir-of-Ord, with everything you need for a comfortable stay."

Clean and modern, but also cozy and traditional at the same time. Furnished and decorated to a high standard. Comfortable beds. Well situated for visits to Black Isle (Cromarty a must), and western Ross-shire. Close to Inverness and accessible by rail if you don't want to drive. We visited (and swam in!) Loch Ness, walked up Ben Wyvis, watched dolphins at Chanonry Point, sampled whisky at the Ord Distillery, walked the shoogly bridge over Corrieshalloch Gorge, as well as visiting many of the local towns and villages. Food and drink stand-outs - Rocpool (casual fine dining) and Aspendos (Turkish) in Inverness and Slaughterhouse Coffee Shop (coffee and cakes) in Cromarty. Take-aways, Shimla (Indian) in Beauly and Bad Girl Bakery in Muir-of-Ord. And after a hard day being a tourist, it was great to sip a dram in front of the wood-burning stove!

  • "Beautiful house and a perfect base for exploring the highlands."

The kitchen could have been better equipped, as 2 families of 4 we frequently ran out of cutlery and crockery. Poor selection of pans and were of poor quality. A larger stock pot would have been useful eg to make a mega spag bol. The knives were also blunt. When we arrived we needed to vacuum the kitchen as there was crumbs around the edges and in the corners. House was generally clean, but may be nicer to clean under the couches and beds every so often. The village has a bakery, a co op, a fabulous patisserie (Bad Gills bakery), a small park and some lovely walks. A great little farm shop (Robertson’s) up the road with highland cows and alpacas for the kids. I can recommend the curry house in Beauly (Shapla?) and they will deliver to Old Manse. Overall, there was plenty space for all 8 of us and would recommend.

Thank you for taking time to provide your feedback and we are delighted to note that you enjoyed the house and the Highland location. Our local housekeeper employs a team who thoroughly clean the house before each visit. We can only apologise for the crumbs you found. They have assured us that they will promptly deal with the issues you have raised. Concerning the kitchen, we have had feedback that it is very well equipped. However, we have noted your points and will review them. Finally, we do appreciate your recommendation and hope you return again soon. Property Owner

  • "We were delighted by our stay at The Old Manse in Muir of Ord."

The house was beautifully presented with plenty of space for four of us to have time alone or altogether! We loved the open kitchen and dining space, and ate outside in the courtyard when the weather permitted. The owners made us feel very welcome with a lovely treat in the fridge on our arrival, and we felt at home straight away. Everything was spotlessly clean, and thought through carefully. During our stay we spent time in Beauly, Glen Affric and took the train (from the station at the end of the road) to the west coast for a day. We also played golf and enjoyed breakfast from the Bad Girls Bakery on our final morning. We hope to be back!

The property

The Old Manse, a grand traditionally built detached house, sits within the historic village of Muir of Ord in the heart of the Scottish Highlands.

The village, centrally situated on the NC500, is surrounded by breathtaking scenery and offers easy access to all parts of the Highlands.

As well as offering rural tranquility, the property benefits immensely from being situated within a five minute walk from local amenities such as a small supermarket, bakeries, cafes etc., and the village train station which services the beautiful Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh and Wick lines.

If you’re looking to enjoy the warm Scottish hospitality as a family, with a group of friends, as a golfer, an angler or walker then the Old Manse will offer the perfect welcome.

This commanding five bedroom property offers stylish and contemporary furnishings and is ideally equipped to offer guests a luxurious and relaxing stay when not out exploring this idyllic Scottish area.

On arrival, once through the private gated driveway, you will access the Old Manse via the front porch, with its classic checkerboard tiles, which leads you into the hallway with its wide timber and glass staircase.

Continuing along the hallway there is a heartwarming dual aspect sitting room where, with three comfortable sofas, a wood burning stove and television, you can relax and unwind in peaceful comfort.

Beside the sitting room there is a convenient and stylish cloakroom with sleek subway tiling.

The next room along, which is approached through a glass and oak doorway, leads into a spacious open plan living space generously equipped for all cooking and social activities.

The kitchen is contemporary with plenty of seating around an island, breakfast bar, dining table and large settee.

With a bar, wine cooler, fridge and all necessary equipment, the scene is set for any type of social gathering.

From here, via bi-fold doors, there is access to one of two enclosed courtyards, one laid to lawn, with seating for enjoying the warmer weather and the other, accessed past a fully equipped laundry room complete with washing machine and tumble dryer etc., with outside furniture for al-fresco dining.

In this courtyard there is access to outdoor locked storage suitable for bicycles, golf clubs or fishing gear etc.

On the first floor, at the front of the property, there are two large dual-aspect bedrooms with super-king sized beds (with zip-link features for twin beds if preferred), separated by a snug reading area.

Both have spacious en-suites, equipped with large walk-in showers.

The other three bedrooms at the rear of the property include two single rooms and one king-size room (with vanity basin area), two of which offer views of nearby Ben Wyvis, a ‘Munro’.

A large family bathroom, fully tiled and equipped with a bathtub and shower etc., completes the rooms on this floor.

In the surrounding area there is an abundance of action-packed activities available and a plethora of interesting and exciting places to explore.

Muir-of-Ord is surrounded by breathtaking scenery and coastlines and is full of hiking and cycling trails, from hill walking and mountain escapes to coastal corners, waterfalls and woodland tranquility.

Within the village itself there is a friendly and challenging 18-hole golf course (Scottish Golf Club of the year 2016) which was designed by James Braid and, as you play, you can delight in beautiful mountain and countryside scenery. There is also an impressive array of other world class golf courses, all within an hour’s drive from the village, such as Royal Dornoch, Castle Stuart, Nairn, Fortrose and the Kings course in Inverness.

Muir of Ord has its very own local malt whisky distillery, Glen Ord, where you can experience whisky tasting tours.

Don’t miss the opportunity to look behind the scenes and see how this popular single malt, Singleton, is brought to life using barley from the Black Isle and water from the White Burn to create its unique taste.

There are major salmon rivers in the area providing some of the best fishing possible, along with various local lochs with wild brown trout and coastal water fishing.

To the South of the village, Inverness and a boat trip along the Caledonian Canal, Eden Court theatre, shops, restaurants and bars are worth visiting or maybe even a trip to Scotland’s most famous Loch Ness to try to see the monster will appeal.

To the north, through rugged scenery, historical towns like Dingwall, Golspie, and Dornoch are within easy reach. To the west, the spectacular countryside, lochs and beaches of Wester Ross offer stunning gentle scenery at Ullapool, Gairloch and Skye.

To the east, the Black Isle includes the small towns of Cromarty, Fortrose and Rosemarkie with its amazing beach where you can often see dolphins at Chanonry Point.

From beaches, castles, wildlife parks, nature reserves and mythical monsters to all types of sporting activities and events, tours and trips, the Highlands has so much to offer.

Muir-of-Ord, where Drovers from all over Scotland used to congregate and trade, thanks to its convenient location, is the perfect base from which to explore as much of the wonderful highlands as possible. Welcome to The Old Manse and Slainte Meath (pronounced Slanj-a-va).
