Campbeltown is the Kintyre Peninsula's main town and is set in a deep bay, sheltered by Davaar Island, which can be reached by foot at low tide by a mile-long causeway, and the beautiful surrounding hills. In its heyday, the town boasted a vast fishing fleet and, allegedly, 34 whisky distilleries! Today, there are two single malts to be sampled in the town, from Glen Scotia and Springbank. Worth a visit are the Campbeltown Heritage Centre, housed in an old church, the Tartan Kirk, a very striking building which provides an interesting insight into its past history, and the 'Wee Picture House', the country's oldest working cinema and an Art Deco treasure! The town also offers a swimming pool and fitness suite. A few miles to the south is The Mull of Kintyre, made famous by Sir Paul McCartney's song, from where you can see the hills of County Antrim, Northern Ireland, only 12 miles away.

The views were awesome. Good location to explore the west side of the Argyll peninsula. Nearness to an amazing beach. The friendliness of the owner and her family.
Mrs Currie, Preston, July 2010
We had a wonderful week, the views, wildlife, location, sunsets were amazing. The cottage was very comfortable and well equipped. The mostly deserted beach was great for our dog and we spent many hours walking or relaxing there as the weather was very kind to us. Look forward to going again.
