Campbeltown is the Kintyre Peninsula's main town and is set in a deep bay, sheltered by Davaar Island, which can be reached by foot at low tide by a mile-long causeway, and the beautiful surrounding hills. In its heyday, the town boasted a vast fishing fleet and, allegedly, 34 whisky distilleries! Today, there are two single malts to be sampled in the town, from Glen Scotia and Springbank. Worth a visit are the Campbeltown Heritage Centre, housed in an old church, the Tartan Kirk, a very striking building which provides an interesting insight into its past history, and the 'Wee Picture House', the country's oldest working cinema and an Art Deco treasure! The town also offers a swimming pool and fitness suite. A few miles to the south is The Mull of Kintyre, made famous by Sir Paul McCartney's song, from where you can see the hills of County Antrim, Northern Ireland, only 12 miles away.

Campbeltown 3 miles. MacGregor Cottage is one of a small cluster of cottages in the hills outside of Campbeltown, on the beautiful Kintyre Peninsula. With open views all around, this Kintyre cottage is an ideal retreat, and a great base to explore and enjoy this tranquil holiday location. The ground floor of this cottage near Campbeltown comprises of the kitchen with dining area, while the sitting room and bedroom are located on the first floor to maximise the views of the surrounding countryside. With hills and secluded beaches nearby, this Kintyre cottage will be popular with walkers and cyclists. Many other activities are catered for locally, including sailing or mountain biking, as well as simply observing the rich variety of wildlife. Golfers too are very well provided for near this Campbeltown cottage, with six challenging courses including Machrihanish Golf Club, with what is considered “the best opening hole in golf."
