    • “We would certainly stay here again. Comfortable and relaxing stay in a lovely setting and within easy reach of Newton Stewart. Footpath & cycle path takes you into the town safely. Great views from the property with plenty of wildlife to see. Garden suitable for larger dogs, one wall was a bit low for the more agile smaller dog to be allowed to run free, but this was not rally a problem as plenty to do in Bonnie Gallowa' so dogs and humans worn out!”

    • “A charming cottage ideal for two sharing. Wildlife abounds in the garden which naturally extends into open countryside. It makes for the most relaxing of times. Cottage amenities were all in order. We never saw anyone supervising the cottage either on our arrival or before we departed but information provided was quite comprehensive. Highly recommended but don't all go as we shall probably want a gap in next year's calendar for our own return!”

Very clean and comfortable cottage and the views from the picture window were magnificent with the scenes changing constantly near the riverside. • “We had a delightful stay at Nether Barr Farmhouse with our collie, Leo. The owner was not in residence in the other part of the property and it felt as if we were in our own private world. The view from the large picture window is stunning: garden, fields, river and hills, not another dwelling in sight. We were lucky enough to have great weather, otherwise view would be more limited. The lounge only accomodates two chairs, no space for a sofa. The view makes up for this though and though compact the loungs/kitchen is pleasant and contains all you need. The bedroom is twin bedded and quite large. I think a king size or linked twin beds, creating a super king, if required, would be an improvement. The bathroom is a good size with bath and efficient and hot over bath shower. Accommodation was heated well. No wifi except in the towns. Garden was ideal for Leo, plenty of space and well enclosed. The one mile walkway/cycle path to Newton Stewart is a great advantage. Safe for dogs (but look out for one place where there is an open gate to the road) and a pretty walk, it will bring you out at Sainsburys and Aldi.”

    • “Nether Barr was a very comfortable cottage in a good location for the area and for what we required. There was an easy path walk 1 mile to Newton Stewart and a 45 minute drive to Cairnryan to catch the ferry to Ireland. We really enjoyed the large window overlooking the adjoining farm and river with 2 very comfortable easy chairs taking advantage of the views. the ensuite bathroom was large and well appointed. The kitchen area is small but adequate. Overall we had a very pleasant stay.”

    • “The cottage is beautiful, clean and comfortable with everything you could need. It was conveniently situated for all the surrounding attractions, of which there are plenty within a short drive, lots more if you are prepared to go a bit further. We enjoyed the lovely bird-friendly garden, spent hours watching them through the picture window - delightful! The nightly flypast of the crows returning to roost and then the bats coming out to feed was an amazing spectacle! We also loved the red deer, the wild goats and the red kites - well worth a visit if you like wildlife. The local people were very friendly and helpful wherever we went, it was a total delight from start to finish.”

    • “The surrounding area is beautiful, the cottage was warm and comfortable and perfectly situated. The view through the lounge window helped make the cottage peaceful and relaxing. It was a nice base to come back to after a days walking, relax with a meal and a drink and sit and watch the swallows finish their day. We would recommend this place and would love to visit again.”

    Mrs Hemsley, Nottingham, May 2014

    • “This was one of the best holidays we have ever had despite the weather being poor, mainly due to the comfortable cottage with outstanding views. It is a haven of peace. The mile walk along a footpath to Newton Stewart is easy and safe for dogs. Newton Stewart offers everything one could need and boasts supermarkets, pubs and hotels for food. There are many places of interest which are easy to reach.”

    Mrs Goldby, Wetherby, May 2014

    • “Good area for anyone who enjoys the outdoors with plenty of walks from the door as well as coastal and forest locations to visit close by. Cycle path makes for an easy walk into Newton Stewart where there is a good choice of supermarkets and local shops. Picture window in property helps make it a very relaxing location whatever the weather with lovely views to river and beyond.”

    Mrs Lawson, Darlington, April 2014

    • “The cottage was delightful, just what we hoped for. It was peaceful and quiet, with lovely walks for the dog all around. The bed was extremely comfortable, we slept really well. The views were great, all in all a pleasure to be here. We certainly will be back.”

About the location

Kirkcudbright 28 miles.

The market town of Newton Stewart, famous for its salmon and trout fishing, lies in a superb location between the serene rolling countryside of the Machars to the south and the Galloway Forest Park to the north. The area is steeped in history. The first Christian missionary to Scotland landed at The Machars, founding the first church in AD 397 in Whithorn. The Whithorn Dig Visitor Centre lies on the site and displays material dug up over years of excavations. The beautiful coastline is a mixture of sandy beaches and rocky shores teeming with birdlife, whilst inland there is superb walking country to be discovered in the Galloway Hills and Forest Park. Sailing, riding and fishing are all available locally and there are plenty of excellent courses to keep the keen golfer busy.
