Nice, clean property, being one of several on a farm there were always people about but it always felt private, owner was always at hand, just a great experience, and already committed to going back next year

  • "Great location with quiet cycle route into the nearby town of Gatehouse of Fleet, or in the other direction miles of quiet country lanes, beaches and an ice cream farm."

The hosts were very friendly and helpful and it was quiet and dark. The cottage was spotlessly clean and well equipped and the shower was lovely. It's quite small, I think it would be a squeeze for four. Also, it's basically in a farmyard. Not a smelly or dangerous one, but you just have to get in the habit of looking into the distance for the views.

  • "The Stable is very compact yet has everything you need for a good holiday."

It's on a busy working farm away from everything yet close to the sea and forest. There is plenty to see and do close by, and good pub food to be had. Iain is a very good host and chatty with it so you'll know where to go. We may well be back some day, but we have many other areas to visit first.

  • "Had a brilliant week away in this cottage."

This is a small cottage, but perfect for us and the dog. The location was beautiful and easy access to the main road which made everything accessible. Have already recommended this to others and do plan to come back at some point!

  • "The cottage is located in a nice quiet area opposite beautiful fields and forests for walking the dogs."

Beaches are nearby as is the Galloway Forest. Castle Douglas is not far either so shopping wasn’t a problem. We loved it and so did the dogs. Iain was very friendly and always available if needed. If we don’t manage to move to the area this year we will most definitely stay again.

  • "Wonderful holiday."

Cottage very clean and well placed for forests, beaches and other attractions. The owner is lovely, very friendly and approachable. Very dog friendly, I think our dog would have stayed forever, with a secure garden for them as well as lots of walking on the doorstep. We will be returning.

  • "Never done self catering cottage before anywhere never mind Scotland but the Stables, Farm and Farmer Iain were a delight to meet and experience."

The stables have everything needed and more, the netflix and smart tv being a welcome bonus. The cottages are in a handy but quiet location to explore nearby but also have sunny grassed area to sit and relax when your adventures bring you back to relax or a game of swing ball! Our host Iain was friendly and informative about the local area and attractions - ask him to point out the forest walk to the pub. Would definitely consider staying here again next time our holidays take us north again.

Really easy to get too and within a short journey to the wedding we were attending. The cottage was very cosy and homely and had all the amenities you could require. About the location

GATEHOUSE OF FLEET

Kirkcudbright 8 miles; Newton Stewart 15 miles; Castle Douglas 15 miles.

Peaceful in its pastel colours, the small country town of Gatehouse of Fleet lies on the Solway Firth, in the midst of Dumfries & Galloway countryside, with good sandy beaches a five-minute drive away. The town was founded in the 1760s as a mill community, and today the nearby Mill on the Fleet - a visitor centre in a former bobbin mill - tells the tale of Gatehouse’s cotton-spinning days. Today, there are several shops in the town including a small supermarket, chemist, bank and Post Office, along with two book/gift shops, a kilt-making centre and two cafes. All four pubs in the town have restaurant facilities and welcome children. Castle Douglas, a 15-minute drive away, offers an extensive range of shops, Threave Gardens and boating on Carlingwark Loch.
