    • “We have stayed at 8 Ninian's Landing on four occasions over the last year and are due to go again in March 2014. The apartment is absolutely ideal for a couple with a dog. It is very well furnished, very well equipped and the welcome pack is gratefully received. The area is idyllic, with a lovely walk around the Cairn, and walks through woodlands and beaches very close by. A visit to Garlieston is a must, along with a visit to auchenmalg. Although the apartment is situated next to the pub, there is no noise from late night revellers. Dogs are very welcome in the Steam Packet, where the food is excellent and a warm welcome awaits. Roll on March.”

Looking out over the harbour, we were fascinated to watch fishing boats and children learning to sail. It was perfect in every way. the Pub next door was an added bonus... excellent food. We will stay again.”

    • “Super week in a very comfortable, clean apartment with a fantastic view of the harbour. The owners were very friendly and helpful and provided a lovely welcome pack to get the holiday off to a great start. The area is beautiful and perfect for walking, bird watching, painting and generally relaxing and watching the world go by. The flat is well equipped and has everything you might need, including parking. The pub is very popular so I recommend booking if you want to eat there.”

    • “What a wonderful place to stay”
    • tripadvisor rating
    • “This flat is beautifully placed on the harbour at Whithorn and we loved bird watching from the window, spotting all sorts of waders whilst enjoying our breakfast. The owners of the flat have pulled out all of the stops with a beautifully decorated and extremely well equipped rental. It instantly felt like home, with a soft comfy sofa, lovely cushions and rugs. The welcome pack was also very thoughtful and enabled us to start our holiday asap. The flat has private parking, which we think is really important. The foyer part of the building had a wonderful nautical theme, which we loved, especially the diving boots and equipment and the barometers etc on the walls. Back to the flat, as a young-ish couple, we felt it provided everything we needed, with everything being easy to use. At night, despite being next door but one to the pub, it was quiet and peaceful, enabling us to have a good nights sleep in the wonderfully comfortable bed. A great place to rent in a beautiful spot”

About the location

Newton Stewart 20 miles.

The picturesque village of the Isle of Whithorn, though no longer an island, nestles around its natural harbour on the southernmost tip of the Machars Peninsula, designated as an outstanding conservation area. The village has a long history of seafaring and trade, which dates back to the Vikings. The arrival in 397 of Ninian, Scotland's first missionary and saint, is thought to be the beginning of Scotland's Christian history, and the remains of the 13th century chapel can still be seen at the end of the harbour. A short, gentle climb will take you to the distinctive white tower - the Cairn - which has been a mariner's landmark for close on two centuries. Today the harbour is popular with visiting leisure sailors and with local boats fishing for crabs, lobsters and scallops. The area is steeped in history with numerous sites ranging from Mesolithic and Iron Age forts, standing stones and 'cup and ring’ markings, an 11th century chapel and castles from the era of Robert the Bruce. Wigtown, Scotland's first book town, can be reached within a short drive, and has over a dozen book shops in which one can easily lose an hour or two! With beaches, forests, golf courses, gardens and churches to visit, this is an ideal base for discovering this corner of Scotland.
