A real chance to unwind and just exist for us, I’ll be recommending the Shepherds hut to my friends, again the milk was great if we could order from you directly we would

  • "We didn't really want to leave the farm."

We were looking for a relaxing time away and we found it here. We'll definitely be back, I'm already missing the milkshakes and Julie the horse haha. :)

  • "A unique experience in a lovely peaceful surround, we loved every minute of our stay, waking up to beautiful ponies and sheep in the field next to us was an added bonus, the only negative would be that there was not many places to eat out and with only having a microwave in the Shepherd’s hut was a bit of a challenge but on saying that we managed perfectly well, maybe if we had just been a month earlier we would have made good use of the BQ."

Lovely spot for a peaceful break, hut was cosy and warm when logburner was lit, not much to do around the area but found some good walks, would visit again

  • "The Shepherds Hut was fabulous!"

It's position on the farm is great with private garden area and parking. Its been very nicely converted and was really comfortable and cosy. Having the log burner indoors was perfect but we also appreciated the electric kettle for a quick cuppa! The gas BBQ is great as was the toasty shower. We added breakfast and BBQ packs and the contents were delicious. Our labrador pup loved the Shetland ponies and the sheep right beside us - even when the ponies decided to moonlight laps around their field!! The hut is really well equipped and kitted out - the only suggestions we had was perhaps a hook on the inside of the door for coats and something heavy or a hook to hold the door open coz the boot rack stops the door going all the way back to the original hook. The outdoor light and solar lights around the path were perfect for evening - and the torch was appreciated too - but the dark skies were perfect for watching the stars. We explored the whole area and found lots of great walks, swims and places to eat!

  • "Fabulous location The area is so quiet and peaceful."

It is a working diary farm so there are smells of the country all around. The hut itself is just as advertised and we enjoyed a lovely week walking around the area and simply relaxing with nature all around. The hosts are very approachable and nothing is too much trouble. I would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting to just get away from it all and relax.

  • "We enjoyed our stay at Ketburn Shepherds Hut, it’s beautifully designed and has everything we needed."

Very peaceful surroundings if you need to get away! One thing that could probably help would be a door mat inside of the hut, just in case of the rain! We would definitely be back for another weekend away on the farm!

About the location

WHITHORN

Castlewigg 2 miles; Wigtown 10.5 miles; Newton Stewart 17 miles.

The former Royal Burgh of Whithorn on the Machars Peninsula in Dumfries and Galloway is renowned for having the first recorded Christian church is Scotland. Built by St Ninian around 397, the site of the Candida Casa, or White/Shining House, is now home to the parish church. The area of Whithorn is rich in history and is also home to a medieval priory and an archaeological site. The distinctive shape of Whithorn, with its spacious central area and narrow entrance-ways of elegant Georgian houses, displays its medieval heritage. The Machars and Rhins of Galloway are also home to spectacular gardens, a result of the Gulf Stream and mild climate. Logan Botanic Gardens, the Aldouran Wetland and the spectacular gardens of Castle Kennedy are all a must see. To the north of the Machars are the Galloway Hills, offering walking to all levels as well as world class mountain biking. Golf, fishing and wildlife spotting are well catered for and the sandy beaches of Monrieth, Garlieston, and along the whole of Luce Bay will delight any visitor.
