Liscannor is a small fishing village steeped in naval and marine history, set along the rugged west Clare coast. Liscannor is overlooked by the ruins of its former castle which sits above the village, while many old stone houses are still occupied. There are a choice of bars and places to eat, including Vaughans, an award winning restaurant, Egans, a must for wine buffs, and McHughs. Two miles north west of the village is O'Brien's Monument, a tall pillar built in 1853, while the famous St Brigid's Well, reputed to have curative powers, is also close by. One of the great natural wonders of Ireland, the Cliffs of Moher are just a 5 minute drive away to the north; these majestic cliffs boast some of the most amazing views in Ireland, and on a clear day you can see the Aran Islands in Galway Bay and the hills of Connemara. Boat trips to view the cliffs from the sea depart from Liscannor Harbour. For great days out, Lahinch is 5 minutes' drive away, and offers miles of Blue Flag beaches, surfing, a swimming pool and aquarium as well as a world renowned Championship links golf course. Visit the spa town of Lisdoonvarna, experience traditional Irish music in Doolin, catch the ferry out to the Aran Islands or visit the caves at Doolin or Ballyvaughan.
