Location: Inchigeelagh, County Cork

Macroom 10 miles; Killarney National Park 35 miles.

The village of Inchigeelagh is located ten miles from the market town of Macroom, County Cork, and is surrounded by beautiful lakes and stunning mountains. Translating from 'The Island of The Hostages', it is commonly believed that Danish raiders were once caught in Inchigeelagh and confined to a small island in the middle of the River Lee, which is now home to a children's park. Inchigeelagh is home to four pubs, several shops and a Post Office, as well as a 'mass rock', which has survived from Penal Times, and now stands on the roadside, just outside the village, an indication of the village's long and varied history. There is great walking and fishing in the area, as well as cycling terrain and touring opportunities. Hire a boat and spend the day on one of the rivers or loughs in the area, take the short drive to Macroom and visit Castle Demesne, or a little further afield, visit Killarney National Park to explore some of the many acres of lakes and mountains.
