Very well equipped and spacious. We loved our stay there and are hoping to return. The WiFi is very good and the lodge was lovely and warm.

  • "We had a lovely holiday."

Everything was as expected and we had no issues. The information received in advance of our stay was very helpful. The property was big enough for our two families to be comfortable during our stay. The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed and it was lovely to find additional touches here and there such as washing tablets, Torches, light bulbs and mini ladder etc all in case they were needed. We couldnt quite work out how to use the dryer for our clothes, however we used the washing line, pegs and maiden, which we preferred anyway. I would highly recommend this property.

Clean and well equipped. My only criticism was that there was no linen airer, not everyone likes to use a tumble dryer

Hello Clare. Thank you for your nice comments, also bringing to our attention the lack of a linen airer this has now been rectified. Kind regards Colin and Karen. Property Owner

  • "The house is in a nice location, close to places to visit and would recommend Jamaica Inn and Tintagel."

The bedrooms are on the first floor, so you will hear people moving above. The living room is very big, and the attached balcony was a nice place to sit in the evening. There is a balcony attached to the master bedroom as well. The dishwasher and washing machine were good, though I could not locate anywhere to dry the washing so had to use the bathroom radiator. Having two bathrooms was good, one of which is attached to the master bedroom through a door, so very easy access. The only problem was the TV reception, some channels would not sync so could not be viewable. Overall, well worth booking especially given the landscape close the house.

Hello Margaret. Thank you for your lovely comments, glad that you enjoyed your stay with us, can I point out that the washing machine is also a tumble dryer, due to the location of the lodge the TV reception can sometimes break up on some channels. Property Owner

  • "Once there we noted that the access down to the lodge and up is VERY steep although this is stated on the details it needs to state that its not at all suitable to anyone with any kind of mobility issues."

We were surprised that in a 2 week stay with 7 of us in the property there was no assumed bed change and towel change with no offer of a bathroom clean at all. Also the details implied that the coast was only 10 minutes away. We were there for 2 weeks and found no coast that close. The closest we found was seaton beach which was 30 minute drive.

Hello Robert. Thank you for your feedback, I have been in touch with our housekeeping team and they assure me that a changeover was done for the towels and bed linen after week one, however they do not do a lodge clean until the end of your stay. The web page has now been adjusted to say that the access is not suitable for people with mobility issues, also the fact that the coast is 10 minutes away has been deleted from Sykes's web page. Thank you for bringing these matters to my attention. Hope this did not distract from your enjoying your holiday with us. Regards Colin & Karen. Property Owner

  • "Overall we had a good time,4 ladies on our first holiday together."

The place was nice, but a couple of issues regarding the settees in the living room, the legs were broken on all three of them,we felt we had to be extra careful when sitting, now for us ladies who I might add are all very mature in our ages,it was a little awkward at times, and also funny...the resort itself was nice, the paths and roads were very steep,we found this a massive problem with walking out and about,so much so we only managed it once.anyway on a lighter note we did enjoy our stay in this property. Would we stay again , proberbly

Hi Denise. Thank you for your feedback, all comments are welcome, I'm very sorry about the legs on the settees. these have now been repaired, we do intend to replace all settees asap. Hope this did not spoil your stay with us. Kind regards Colin & Karen. Property Owner

Was very peaceful. The lodge itself was very clean and tidy, everything necessary in a household was there when and if needed. Was helpful to find a local Tesco just a few mins drive down the road. Local little shop on site and a lovely little pub which had friendly people. Overall was lovely to get away for the week would definitely recommend for anyone wanting time away from everything, more than a little peace and quiet and time to spend with family.

  • "Access to the property is difficult for anyone not good on their legs."

Quite a sloping narrow pathway one side of the property not suitable for anyone who uses a mobility scooter and a difficult hike with bags and cases from the car park. The other access is up about eleven steps, also very difficult with baggage. The car park this side was also continuously blocked by vehicles from the next lodge. Inside the property was well equipped and comfortable, some big spiders though from the woodland !!. Not a place I would revisit.

  • "Very unkempt outside, gutters full of leaves and weeds."

Thick Leaves on the pathway to the house and surrounds which were all carried inside on our shoes. Would have expected this to be remedied before our arrival. Both decks were also very untidy and could have been swept. The inside of the house decoration wise is lovely, bed linen nice and clean. All electrical appliances in good working order, kitchen worktops looked clean but when we came to wipe them down we found they weren't. Vacuum cleaner emitted a terrible smell on use we found the bag inside absolutely full to the brim. We eliminated this by putting a new bag in. Surely this should have been checked and emptied if it had been used before we arrived. I think house keeping needs checking out.

Thank you for taking the time to send us your feedback. As the leaves are currently falling off the many trees that surround the property, it is a constant job clearing the leaves, as you can imagine, although the grounds maintenance team do try to keep on top of it. We are pleased that you liked the decoration, found all appliances to be in good order and, as always the bed linen was fresh and clean. The owner is talking to his housekeeping team regarding the worktops, if you had informed us at the time, I can assure you we would have asked the cleaning team to return. Once again thank you for your comments, we do hope that you will holiday with us again in the future. Property Owner

The description included bunk beds which h turned out to be a double bed , actually was better for us, also told no washing machine and there was one so could of taken less luggage . Which would of been nice to know . However, the problem we had was not being able to contact Sykes for any information , I understand the problem with covid 19 But when we paid £2000 fro a family holiday , it would of been nice to had the phone answered or an email reply.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay at Valley Lodge 61. We have now updated the listing to include the washing machine and the new double bed which was added earlier this season. • "Having had a very stressful journey down from Norfolk we were all presently surprised with Lodge 61."

However we found it difficult to locate "it" on site and felt more site maps/boards should be placed near entry gate. Also we would have liked to have re-cycling bins available. We are used to recycling most of our household ,food and garden rubbish here at home. We felt very guilty putting it all in together in the only available "wheelie bin". Apart from the previous comments we thoroughly enjoyed our week in Cornwall and the peace and quiet the brochure promised.

  • "Sykes was very helpful with the booking."

unfortunately, we had to change to a larger property two weeks before and they went out of their way to accommodate us, as we feared we may have had to cancel the holiday. The lodge was, spacious, clean and comfortable, the only problem we found with 3 families going away together with just two cars, there was not a great deal to do in walking distance, there was a bus stop at the entrance, there is also a train station on the outskirts of the town (but we did not view the timetables or use either of them) Beaches were at least half hour drive away. Although there were some beautiful walks in driving distance. We ate in most evenings but did go to the restaurant on site once the food was really nice and not badly priced, the staff were very helpful and friendly, going in April 14th-21st was reasonably quiet both in the restaurant and around the grounds, which the staff worked very hard to keep clean and tidy - daily. Due to the stream running alongside the lodge premises, during the evenings there were a lot of gnats (this is an observation, not a complaint, so don't forget your insect candles for evenings on the balcony and sprays or creams). And the views of the sun rising from the balcony in the morning was amazing. The kids made the most of the swimming pool and games room and the adults spent time in the gym. It was surprising how many places were dog-friendly this made our holiday stress free, as dogs are not allowed to be left alone in the lodge (our little Jack Russel had a wonderful week) she was allowed in the site restaurant, and restaurants near beaches (but do check if dogs are allowed on beaches before planning your day) she was not allowed on one of them. Tescos Superstore is a ten-minute drive away, close to the high street shops, where there was also a Waitrose, Subway, kebab takeaways, as well as the usual pharmacies and pubs - returning from our daily trips out we came across a few Aldi's and Morrisons. (car parks cost around £7 for the whole day, so keep plenty of change handy there is also a charge at some of the national trusts for parking) I would definitely recommend the lodge and the site, we will definitely return.

About the location

CALLINGTON

Tavistock 9 miles; Launceston 11.5 miles; Plymouth 14.6 miles.

Callington is a Cornish market town, rich in mining heritage and overlooked by Kit Hill, the highest point in the area, donated to the people of Cornwall by Prince Charles to celebrate the birth of Prince William. From the top of Kit Hill there are fabulous views across south-east Cornwall as far as Plymouth Sound. Callington is set in the heart of the Tamar Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and offers a good selection of shops, inns and cafes, as well as being the home of Ginsters Cornish pasties. A few miles away, the quaint village of Calstock clings to the steep banks of the river Tamar and is dominated by the splendid Calstock Railway Viaduct, a giant 11-arched stone construction supporting one of Britain’s most picturesque branch lines running through the Tamar Valley. Other interesting places along the river are Cotehele, a beautiful historic house and gardens owned by the National Trust with a small quay and inn, and Morwhellam Quay, a theme park that staged a living history production for the BBC and where visitors can explore the rich mining heritage and watch blacksmiths, potters and craftsmen at work. The pannier market town of Tavistock is only nine miles from Callington and is well worth a visit on your way to a day’s walk on Dartmoor. A splendid base to explore south Cornwall and West Devon.
