  • "Comfortable and spacious accommodation, in a peaceful and quiet countryside location with views across Dartmoor, a great getaway destination for a relaxing break."

The beds are very comfortable, more than adequate wardrobe, shelving and drawer space in each bedroom. Bathrooms are of a good size with excellent shower units. The lounge is very comfortable, plenty of room to spread out and on fine days both sets of patio doors can be opened for some welcome fresh air, as well as several other windows. A Smart TV with access to Netflix gives ample scope for entertainment in the evening or on inclement days. The veranda has seating, a table for which a parasol is available; pots of flowers make a nice colourful display. Kitchen is very well equipped utensil wise, with a gas hob and electric fan oven. A full size fridge/freezer, especially useful if planning on self catering for the week. Milk, cake and apple juice we discovered for our use on arrival, which was most welcome after our journey. Should you have the need there is a utility room with washing machine, tumble dryer and ironing board. Eating out we enjoyed evening meals at Mary Tavy and Peter Tavy Inns and lunch times and breakfasts at Strawberry Fields Cafe in village of Litton where there is also an excellent farm shop selling quality produce. There are plenty of other places to eat in Tavistock, we especially liked Church Lane Cafe which has some outside seating where one can sit and watch the world go by whilst sipping a frothy latte. If you like jigsaws, then do visit Owens in Tavistock, a shop solely devoted to this past time. We will be returning to Lodge 9 (Tamar) again this coming autumn. My wife and I heartily recommend this holiday accommodation.

The owner has thought of everything. Good quality china, nice bed linen and towels, sofas are comfortable as are the beds. Plenty of storage too and well equipped modern bathroom and en-suite shower room. It was an absolute pleasure to stay there and we were very sorry to leave. It s in a rural setting with just 11 lodges in total, its quiet and has great views and lovely countryside all around. Only a 2 mile drive into Tavistock which is a great town. So nice we have decided to move there!

  • "Well, being in Devon is just so wonderful, as anyone who has visited will tell you."

So I want to concentrate on the accommodation. Never have I had a more comfortable place to stay before! We've stayed at lovely places but, in my opinion, this was the best. The owner of this lodge left "no stone unturned", so to speak. Everything we needed was provided, tea, coffee, sugar etc & plenty of everyday items such as cleaning materials, refuse sacks, toilet paper etc. Extras of these were not provided in other properties & these are things that you could easily forget to buy. The lodge was squeaky clean too which is always a bonus. On the Sunday of our stay, I loved watching so many tractors going along the lane behind the lodges. I think there was a tractor rally or something going on in the area. All in all, it was fantastic.

  • "The lodge was as described and very comfortable."

The level of equipment was excellent as some holiday properties never have enough plates, glasses or saucepans and owners presume you will always go out to eat. On arrival there was an issue with no hot water but the central heating was working correctly. The boiler had a large note on it tell guests not to touch the controls, so I rang the owner who was on holiday in Wales. She contacted the Gas Board and rang me back saying that they could attend on Monday but that would mean me staying in the property and if this was to happen I would get a refund of some kind. As this was Saturday afternoon I was not prepared to wait till Monday with no hot water so I ignored the do not touch sign and reprogrammed the boiler with the desired effect to correct the problem. However, someone without that knowledge may had been in trouble as I explained to the owner when I rang her back to cancel the gas board. As expected she was grateful and relieved that I had sorted out the problem. The other minor issue was the TV signal that previous occupants had mentioned and the owners had fitted a signal booster, but there were two or three times during the week that we had to turn off and reboot the booster in order to get the TV to work. These two minor matters did not spoil our break in a wonderful part of the country that we know well, together with a week of glorious weather.

  • "This is a beautiful place especially with two bathrooms and very comfortable beds."

I have marked low on comfort not for the furnishings which were excellent but due to the gas boiler not working for two plus one days. One other point, the carpet is lovely but the light colour shows up every mark makes one uneasy to even walk on it. Although, we had our slippers,to change at the front door. I would not stay here with young children unless the carpet was changed. The TV picture goes off quite regularly.

Thank you for your feedback. Yes, it must be every owners nightmare that a heating boiler unexpectedly breaks down and inconveniences guests. Fortunately, many owners like myself will have a comprehensive home-care insurance policy so emergency gas boiler call outs can be speedily activated. Also, many owners like me will have thought ahead to cover all eventualities and provided sufficient electric heaters that guests need never be cold. Following your feedback, I have stayed at the property myself for the last 10 days and found everything to be working perfectly. The pale carpet is robust and there has not been a problem reported by families. Property Owner

We appreciated all the thoughtful touches eg the visitors book with recommendations for local eateries and places to visit. The owner provided local milk, apple juice and biscuits for our arrival which was very welcome. Bedside torches were useful for visits to the loo in the night. The weather was mixed but there is so much to see and do in the local area to keep us entertained whatever the weather. A week just was n't long enough. The only thing lacking in the lodge was a tumble drier but we took our washing home.
