  • "Damp in the bedrooms needs sorting and new carpets need to be fitted."

Some sharp bits on the stairs as tacks were exposed where carpet no longer sticks. These were the only issues, we found it a Lovely cottage and great location.

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback for your stay at April Cottage. We have taken time to address the points you have raised. Unfortunately it has been exceptionally wet and stormy here recently but we have taken action to eradicate any signs of damp in the cottage and stop it reoccurring in the future. We also have plans to replace the flooring in the cottage after a busy summer season. We are glad to hear you enjoyed your stay and would love to welcome you back again in the future. Property Owner

  • "Dear Annie One of the main reasons for booking April Cottage in Coverack was because it had an ensuite walk-in shower."

This was an important requirement because of my wife’s mobility problems. On first attempt to use the shower the day after our arrival, the shower head was found to be leaning on the wall and upon first adjustment, the holding bracket fell apart. This was nothing to do with any mishandling on our behalf and it was simply not fit for purpose from the start of our visit and invalidated using the shower. Fortunately, there was another shower in the family bathroom that we had to use instead. I contacted the owner and informed him of the problem, and he seemed apologetic and grateful of the information. He then told me that scaffolding would be erected during our stay to do some work on the chimney. I was surprised that this was not mentioned when we initially booked the property. We had to leave a day early because of a domestic situation at home but the inconvenience of the scaffolding erection meant that we had to leave two days early. Furthermore, the mirror in the ensuite shower room was missing, although the brackets were still there. I trust the owner is not blaming us for that as well! So, imagine my indignant surprise on receipt of your email about the owner claiming that the property was left in in a poor state of repair. It was in POOR REPAIR when we arrived. Please do not attempt to deduct any money from my account because of a poorly maintained property. I appreciate Sykes Cottages is a professional company and that you will relay this conversation back to the owner. Sincerely Colin Threadgill PS: The dead & dying tulips on our arrival together with the non-functioning DVD player didn’t raise our hopes on day 1 but we refrained from putting any derogatory comments in the visitor’s book as a show of good will. RE: 4K52U-23-EN I trust this message finds you well. Following the notification from the property owner and claims of the property left in a poor state of repair on your departure. It appears some damage has been caused to the shower head that was only recently replaced. Due to these events, we will be deducting from the the good housekeeping bond. • "April Cottage is such a lovely place to stay, in the best location."

We loved being in the heart of the village and being so close to the amenities. We were disappointed with a few aspects of our stay. There were no toilet rolls in either bathroom when we arrived late in the evening. In addition, there was a dishwasher with no dishwasher tablets, no soap by sinks (only an inch or so of washing up liquid), etc. I mentioned this to the housekeeper and she kindly brought two loo rolls the next day, which she said the cleaner had forgotten to put out. If we'd have been told to bring these items, we would have, though for the price of the rental we would expect these basics to be provided at least for the first couple of days. There were two specific issues on arrival: the ensuite bathroom off the master bedroom had a shower hose that was broken and simply propped up in the stand. It collapsed on my elderly mother-in-law when she tried it on day 1. The housekeeper came on day 2 and said she would get someone round to fix it, but alas no-one arrived and the shower in that bathroom was unusable for our stay. In addition, there was a dirty puddle of water - so thick it was almost oily - by the woodburner that our dog stepped in on arrival. The housekeeper said it was probably left by the cleaner, and kindly cleaned it up when she came to look at the shower. We took pictures of these things as soon as we noticed them to show how we found the property at the start of the holiday. We would hope a few of these things could be improved for future guests. A couple of other things worth mentioning: it took us about an hour to figure out which codes got the wifi working as there were different ones noted on the visitor book and in the file, so I annotated the notes so future guests would find it easier. The instructions for working the DVD/video weren't clear to us so we missed out on that. Overall, though, we enjoyed our week and look forward to returning to Coverack next year. Thank you!

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback your comments have been taken on board. Sorry to hear there were no household sundries left for you, we will be taking this up with the housekeepers. We hope to welcome you back to April Cottage. Property Owner

April Cottage was very comfortable, a reading light would be a good idea as it was quite dark in the sitting room and I could only read in the day sitting by the window. The garden up the steps was very lovely.

  • "The cottage was clean when we arrived but there was mould on the walls in the bedroom which seemed to get worse during out stay (or maybe we noticed it more)."

For someone with asthma, this isn’t ideal! The ceiling height was low in many areas, which could have been mentioned in the listing - esp for people with back problems. An amazing location though, would highly recommend for anyone who likes the sea, swimming, walking and stunning views!

Thank you for flagging the issue of the small mould patch you noticed in one of the bedrooms, we had not been aware of this. On our recent visit a few weeks ago, we had not noticed it, but we will review. On the ceiling height being low in the downstairs of the property, this is now clearly flagged in the property overview on the website. Thank you for you feedback once again. Property Owner

Beautiful spot and lovely village. Would probably avoid if you have a dog that would bark every time someone walks past the window. Not a criticism as it’s wasn’t a problem but with the village shop and bakery opposite and the pub 200 yards away worth considering if that is you.

  • "We needed to contact the caretaker."

Mobile signal is poor and a landline is provided. It didn't work. There had been a power cut and the oven needed to be re-set to function. There were no oven instructions available and it took a while to sort this out. The central heating was set set to a high temperature and again there were no instructions on how to operate the thermostat to adjust this and turn the heating off. Otherwise, the cottage was clean and comfortable, and once we had sorted these problems out, we had a good time. The village was pleasant and there were a couple of decent places to eat, such as The Bay Hotel, The Lifeboat House Restaurant and Harbour Lights Cafe. The village shop opposite the cottage sells a good range of stuff, and you can also have tea, coffee and cakes there which were good.

Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback following your recent stay at April Cottage, we have spoken to the owner who has confirmed the issues with the broadband and landline at the house have now been fully resolved by the service provider. Property Owner

  • "There were two areas that where difficult from our stay at April Cottage."

The parking -this area is very attractive for day visitors and the designated car parks were full on arrival to the area. Parking between 1st June to August 31st is restricted and although many did not observe this aspect, we did! The little garden at the back of the cottage was a little over grown and would benefit from a regular tidy up, especially to allow access to the rear paths across the cliff to Village Hall and towards the church. This garden is most unsuitable for anyone who is restricted in walking and movement! The cottage is delightful and well equipped. Very comfortable and located across from the village store which serves fresh pastries every morning- All very good.

Thank you for completing our feedback form, this has helped to outline a few issues that we have updated on our website to ensure that the property is sold as it should be. Property Owner

The property had lots of little issues. We were unable to watch tv due to there being no signal, contacted the owner but still no joy, the bathroom sink leaked every time it was filled, the door handle kept falling off the bathroom door, lightbulbs out, and the cottage was unclean and very dusty.***Owners response***Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback following your recent stay at April Cottage. We've spoken with the owner who has asked us to cover the points mentioned in order to help yourselves and reassure future guests. We were very sorry to hear you experienced difficulty using the newly installed satellite TV, our housekeeper advised on how to obtain signal for the TV, when she did not hear from you again it was assumed the problems were resolved. We have now extended the written instructions that are left at the cottage. We were very surprised to hear of the other issues mentioned following our annual inspection the previous week where no such problems were found. The feedback we receive for April Cottage is overwhelmingly positive and we are confident that any issues highlighted are a one off.

It was very cosy, and more than enough room for myself, my mother and my 13 year old daughter. Coverack was stunning, and we had amazing sunny weather, so lots of walks to the beach , church, handy shops, and enjoying the views. I would say that the bathroom is a bit tired and needs attention, but overall we had a lovely holiday.

Great location, spacious and well equipped. We all really enjoyed the cream tea which was left for our arrival. We travelled to Coverack by bus. Shop opposite closes at 17:00 and not open on Sunday, so recommend shopping before unpacking if arriving on the 16:25 bus :-) Went on some lovely walks to St. Keverne and Kennack Sands. Children had great fun with kayaking and stand up paddle and also enjoyed jumping from the harbour wall when the tide was in. Delicious fish and chips and pizza. Missed out on the local pasties - need to get there early to avoid them being sold out. Would definitely recommend the cottage and hope to return there again one day. One negative - would have been good to have a recycling box - only a rubbish bin was available.

Elizabeth’s pasty shop two doors away, lovely home made food. Well stocked general shop opposite, harbour fish n chips and the Paris hotel, for real ale. A little slice of heaven. One warning, in June, seagulls young are nesting on the roof, and the parents are very protective, so back garden is a no go area. It is their home after all. Looking forward to going back soon.

A great central location close to harbour and beach. However, I would have expected to have cleaning stuff available, particularly toilet cleaner, a basic for a house of 6 for a week. The garden access was difficult, it needed cutting back to be able to get up the steep steps. The garden furniture had seen better days. The shower in the main bathroom needs some maintenance. The shower head holder is tied up with string! The instructions for bins could be clearer. Our outside bin was full when we arrived and there wasn’t a recycling box available that we could find.

In the heart of Coverack, one of Cornwall's prettiest villages, just a stone's throw from the beach and harbour is April Cottage.

This idyllic 18th century cottage has been beautifully renovated to blend seamlessly original charm with stylish, modern comforts.

Well suited for simply relaxing, the warm and inviting sitting room has pretty window seats and a wood burner sits within the huge stone inglenook.

The smart kitchen features exposed stone walls, a useful utility area and a door which leads to the garden.

On the first floor are four attractive bedrooms: a king size double with sea views and an en suite shower-room.

A second double and two single rooms share a family bathroom.

Outside, from the elevated terraced garden (22 steep steps up from back door), which has a decked area with table, chairs and a BBQ, are super sea views and a gate leading to the Coast Path.

Within the village are a little harbour and a beach with low-tide sand.

Nearby, it is possible to try your hand at windsurfing, snorkeling, scuba diving and fishing.

Further afield, the seal sanctuary at Gweek, and the larger town of Helston with its family theme park are both great ways to spend a day.

Coverack is a beautiful and peaceful place to escape the main tourist routes and offers a beach in the sheltered bay, which is ideal for swimming, windsurfing, and kayaking, as well as shops, pub, and restaurants. Further amenities lie in St Keverne, which has a post office, shops and 2 traditional pubs. The Lizard Peninsula has many spectacular coves and beaches and is noted for its rare geology and plants. From Lizard Point there are wonderful sea views from the windswept cliffs, which provide fabulous walking opportunities along this stretch of the South West Coast Path. Inland is the market town of Helston, known for its Flora Day Festival, and in Gweek is The Cornish Seal Sanctuary, whilst approximately ten miles away is the Culdrose Airfield, where once a year the public are welcome to come and meet the Fleet Air Arm, the Royal Navy’s flying force.
