  • "Our second holiday here at The Byre in Lostwithiel."

We love the 'home from home' feel as the owner's, Ed & Nicky, have really thought of everything to make your stay comfortable. We very much liked the new sofa & armchair, very comfortable. In the kitchen the new non stick pans are of a very good quality and we are even going to buy some for ourselves! We were grateful for the welcome items such as Milk, Scones, clotted cream & Jam. The bottle of wine & the fresh flowers a very nice touch. Thank you again for a peaceful, comfortable stay at your gorgeous holiday cottage. We will be back!

Lovely Cream Scone tea on arrival. Great Honey available in nice size jars. (my one problem was as I am disabled (crutches) I did find the floor a bit slippy as it was a wet holiday, but that was a chance I have to take on holidays) Everything else was there for what was needed thanks.

A very characterful property, new comfortable settee and chair in the lounge area, lovely walk in shower and comfy king size bed. The owners Ed & Nicky were very friendly and on hand if required. Our dogs enjoyed mooching around with Meg & Gizzie! We would highly recommend this property to anyone considering a holiday in Cornwall. Thanks again Terry & Emma Huxley

  • "Beautiful cottage, connected to another rental piece of the barn, in a stunning location."

Warm welcome with scones etc, milk, fresh flowers and WINE in the fridge! How welcoming! The sofa is terrible, should really be changed to something more comfortable, this one left us with back-ache..... even though we put all the extra pillows in it to make it a bit better. The bed was something we worried about when we first lied on it... But in the end we slept well in it! And it is HUGE!! Nevertheless, in my opinion (and reading reviews from months ago I wasn't the only one) it is time to renew it. It squiks, you feel the mattress springs and it feels as if you roll out of the bed. We saw the owner only twice short, which is fine, but gave me no change to tell him this, so I wrote it in the questbook.

The mattress has been replaced 10th April and a new sofa on order eta July 2023. Property Owner

The cottage was clean, homely and well appointed with a touch of quality. It is a perfect setting for dogs, our two settled instantly and loved running around in the paddock, which is in the grounds. • "We had a lovely welcome both from the owner and the welcome pack."

The cottage is clean and in a peaceful setting. However, we were very uncomfortable when we were in the cottage. The suite is low and has no support and we couldn’t get comfortable in the evening. The bed is a great size which is something we always look for and we did sleep ok but again it is past it’s best. We like the location but will not be staying again unless the suite is updated. The signal on the TV was intermittent but that didn’t bother us as we don’t watch a lot of TV. Just to note Byre and Wagon House both have the same furniture. Kind regards

Thank you for your feedback and of course I am disappointed that you found the comfort of my cottage had deteriorted since your last stay in September 2021. The suite is professionally cleaned and checked for structural soundness each winter but following your comment I will take another look at it on the next changeover. Although you hadn't mentioned the issue with the tv when we spoke while you were in the cottage I will get that checked too. Any feedback is always welcome as that is one of the drivers for maintaining customer satisfaction. Best wishes, Edward. Property Owner

The Byre is an ideal place to stay for a couple. It is like home from home, everything you need is there & it’s very spacious with lovely views. It is in an ideal spot to all the places we wanted visit while in Cornwall. We would not hesitate to recommend & make a return visit ourselves. One little thing that could make the stay even better would be a higher more supportive sofa for the older generation, but it does not take away what a great little place it is.

About the location

LOSTWITHIEL

Bodmin 5.5 miles; Fowey 7 miles.

A delightfully peaceful country town, nestling in the Fowey river valley amid the woods and fields that characterise the area. Renowned as a centre for the antiques trade, there are several shops and dealers in the town, as well as a fine collection of country pubs, restaurants and a thriving farmer’s market. Lanhydrock House (NT) and gardens is just 3 miles away, while the fabulous Boconnoc House, Eden Project, shipwreck museum and tall ships harbour at Charlestown, and the picturesque fishing villages of Mevagissey, Fowey and Padstow, with the famous Rick Stein restaurants, are all within easy driving distance. The tumbling Atlantic surf, long sandy beaches and dramatic coastline of the north coast, including at the renowned Newquay, make for great days out and there is also chance to enjoy river canoeing, biking, hiking and leisurely walks in this lovely area. The friendly locals also have ongoing activities, such as the raft race, the famous tug of war, Carnival week and seagull outboard motor races. The river Fowey runs from the town on its 8 mile journey through the fields and wooded valleys to the gentler southern coast, a natural paradise for those who love the sea. Centrally placed, with much to do and see in the immediate area, Lostwithiel is the perfect choice for those seeking a break away from the hectic pace of the tourist resorts.
