We had a wonderful week with our pooch too and the location of the property was wonderful with the beach just minutes way. The directions were great and it was easy to drop off our things at the cottage and then go and park. The cottage itself is so quaint with gorgeous little details and really has everything you need for a week away from home. Would recommend for any couple looking for a romantic retreat by the sea.

  • "The owners were fantastic at responding to queries as they were quick and helpful."

The cottage is a gorgeous property and quickly felt like home and the location was fantastic. Although the cottage was quite cold, it could warm up quite quickly. A pair of net curtains wouldn't go amiss as passer bys kept stopping to peer in the cottage which could be quite uncomfortable, so we spend the majority of the stay in darkness. An extra tea towel wouldn't hurt either,. Also the gorgeous china plates being placed rather precariously on the shelving unit gave me some anxiety - as I kept worrying that my clothes would snag on them and pull them off! The cottage was very compact which is expected for an old fisherman's cottage, so anyone over 6ft should consider that. Overall it was an enjoyable stay and I would reccomend it to others for the convenience of the location and character.

Thank you for your feedback, we are glad you enjoyed your stay. Property Owner

  • "This is a gorgeous little cottage, beautifully arranged, spotlessly clean and in the heart of the town, However…it is TINY, My husband and I are small in stature, height and clothing size, yet we struggled!"

The bathroom is cleverly fitted onto the middle floor (it’s an old building and creativity has been necessary), the shower cubicle is the smallest I’ve ever seen, and while I understand the space issues, why put the largest shower head I’ve ever seen into it!! It was like being waterboarded! It’s was really difficult to wash my hair as couldn’t move free of the water to lather shampoo. Also, the shower cubicle door is really awkwardly positioned so you have to squeeze around the sink while trying not to let the tsunami of water make the room wet! The details mention “stairs narrower and steeper than usual stairs”, this is an understatement. They are very narrow and steep indeed with some twists in them too, navigating them for a night wee not great. I think the size of property and the stairs should be clearer on the details, as although it’s beautiful we certainly wouldn’t have booked it if we’d realised what a tight squeeze it is.

  • "Just returned from our stay at this wonderful little cottage."

It has everything you need including some extras (we had many fun hours playing the games provided). Starting from the top floor the bed was comfortable, and the large vanity unit was a welcome addition as there just isn’t enough space in the compact shower room (can’t be helped due to the style and age of the property). Moving down a floor to the kitchen diner, this was where we spent most of our leisure time in the cottage, relaxing at the table, eating and playing games. Despite being a kitchen, the decor makes it a very cozy area. The ground floor was also nice and comfortable though we found it was our dog, who happily spent most of the time in here. The street was quiet (apart from seagulls), you have central heating throughout, and the place is decorated lovingly. If I had to pick on anything, I’d say that whilst it’s a nice shower head, it’s probably too big for the shower cubicle itself which is very compact. There are times you want to step away from the water to lather up for example and it’s just not possible, the only way is to turn off the water and then open it up again. Again not a big issue, just a minor thing. A smaller shower head from the wall might help in this respect. The stairs are also very narrow, but you get used to them quickly. The shower and stairs may just be an issue for larger and/or less mobile people.

Thank you for your wonderful feedback we’re really pleased you enjoyed your stay in our lovely fisherman’s cottage. The house is over two hundred years old and full of character including the narrow stairs which we are unable to change but will consider changing the shower head. We hope to welcome you back to Chy Pyscador in the future. Kind regards Owners Property Owner

The space is well thought out, owners have obviously put effort into making it functional and comfortable. We cooked every evening and the kitchen was well equipped. Cottage was clean and tidy. Bed, pillows and bedding were all really comfortable and the bedroom also has a TV and sink, so it’s a cosy space to unwind. View across the rooftops. Was very cold on arrival as the heating hadn't been left on for us, but didn't take too long to warm up. Everything g that you would want was at the cottage and a very short walk to the town. Very friendly people, can recommend the Ship Inn and The Golden Guinea for friendliness and food. Just what we needed, thank you very much. Unloading the car on arrival and departure was easy, we parked by the church and then took the car to Millpool car park and walked back, no problem.

Local beaches were spacious and interesting - even in the rain! The cottage is very cosy, comfortable and well-equipped, using space in a really interesting and sensible way. The stairs are a bit tricky but it was good exercise going up and down two flights! Plenty of places to eat, drink and shop in the locality. You definitely don't need to bring a car as Looe is well-served by public transport. We hope to come again in better weather to explore the beautiful oak woods and Looe Island near by.

  • "Despite being so near the town centre and the beach area it was amazingly peaceful and I loved it!"

You are right to stress the steepness of the stairs as it would definitely NOT suit anyone who has even minor mobility issues. Owners could think about replacing the worn, and therefore somewhat unappealing, kitchen sink but this is a niggle and the cottage otherwise met expectations.

In response to Mrs Adby's review: We are very pleased you enjoyed your holiday in our quaint Fisherman's Cottage with regard to the sink area in the kitchen, the oak drainer will be sanded and re-varnished until we do a brand new kitchen refit, proposed for this winter. Property Owner

The property

Chy Pyscador is a quaint, mid-terrace fisherman's cottage resting within the popular fishing port of Looe.

Tucked away within a pretty pedestrian lane, this whitewashed traditional homestay makes a fabulous romantic escape for those seeking a tranquil spot, yet within paces of restaurants, Cornish inns, beaches and the colourful quay.

Upon entering this property, you are immediately charmed by the sitting room boasting a wooden floor, ceiling beams, stone fireplace and granite hearth with a mock woodburner.

Stairs rise to the first floor with an attractive stained glass window leading to the delightful bespoke kitchen with grey hued units, wooden work surfaces, Belfast sink and a table for two for that pasty lunch or cream tea.

On the second-floor, you will find a king-size double bedroom, which offers a feature fireplace, wash basin and wall mounted TV and view across the roof tops.

At the front of the cottage is a box seat, perched within a sunny nook to sit with a morning coffee and plan the day ahead.

Looe harbour and the superb sandy beach makes this a popular coastal retreat, with a myriad of inns, restaurants and cafes lining the waterside, boasting local produce and traditional ales.

Hop on a leisurely boat trip to Looe Islands bird and wildlife sanctuary, which promises a particularly picturesque setting, or board one of the many boat trips from the harbour to see seals in their natural habitat or try deep sea fishing.

Alternatively, the two golden beaches boast rock pools and caves for exploration and endless stunning coastal walks in both directions or hire a cycle and discover the scenic woodlands.

Further afield are the famous Eden Project andl Heligan Gardens, each offering a superb day out.

For rest, relaxation and coastal capers, Chy Pyscador is an idyllic bolthole for a getaway, all year round.

About the location

LOOE

Polperro 5 miles.

Looe is Cornwall’s second largest fishing port and hence there is always a lively maritime bustle around the quay area of East Looe, which is connected to the quieter West Looe by a seven arched 19th century bridge over the River Looe. You can also catch the river taxi between East and West Looe. East Looe has narrow cobbled streets, twisting alleyways and plenty of tourist shops, whilst West Looe has a lovely outlook across the harbour. Looe’s viewpoint, Banjo Pier, can be reached from the quay and is a great spot to watch the returning fishing trawlers and look across the bay to Looe Island, which can be walked to occasionally at very low tides. The sandy Looe beach adjoins the pier and is very popular with families because of its safe shallow swimming and vast expanse of sand. There is also a great rock pool area at Hannafore that children will love. West Looe has a Heritage Centre that recently opened in the Old Sardine Factory with a climbing wall and a cafe and the delightful Kilminorth Woods have way marked walks through the majestic oak wood, rich in plant, insect and bird life. Apart from beach activities in this part of south east Cornwall, there are many mining remains on Bodmin Moor and in the Tamar Valley and much of the mining landscape has World Heritage status. This area of Cornwall has inspired writers, such as Daphne du Maurier and much of Bodmin Moor has inspired legends linked with King Arthur. There is much to explore in this beautiful part of Cornwall.
