  • "Hi the flat was in a good position for us on the edge of Marazion a short walk for a night out and food."

The downside was in the dark the step's up to the flat which had a light on a sensor to start with then the light stopped working which then made the step's tricky to negotiate until the light at the top came on. The bed was worn out and the sofa has seen better day's but on the whole it was a good base to have a holiday I've stayed in worse and I've stayed in better. WE HAD A REALLY NICE HOLIDAY AND WOULD GIVE IT 10/10 EXCEPT FOR THE BED !!!

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at Mackerel Sky. We are pleased that you made the most of the excellent location and that you “would give it (the property) 10/10 except for the bed”. We fully appreciate that comfort is different for different people, but it’s a shame that you weren’t comfortable at Mackerel Sky. All other reviews this year have rated comfort at 100% , with the word ‘comfortable’ frequently used by guests in their reviews. We were sorry to learn that you didn’t find the property’s outside lighting to be helpful. As you explain that the light at the top of the stairs did in fact come on, when the lighting at the foot of the stairs was less reliable, it would seem that the sensor for Mackerel Sky’s outside light - the one at the top of the stairs - did in fact work. The bottom of the stairs is lit by a neighbouring property’s light. It might well have been that the residents there had switched it off to avoid light disturbance in one of their bedrooms. However, if you had let us know about this inconvenience, we could have investigated to see if there was something we could do to help. Property Owner

Thank you for your lovely comments! We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay at Mackerel Sky and would love to welcome you back in the future. • "First class villa in a fantastic location very close to the beach."

Well equipped, spotlessly clean and comfortable. My only negative is the parking is quite difficult and hotly contested with residents and other holiday makers. It was advertised on a first come first served basis, however, it's only suitable for smaller cars and there are only about 9 spaces and 16 properties. As a result I elected to park my fairly large estate car in the car park recommended by the owners. My phone wouldn't load the Just Park app (4g not available) so I paid Just Park via their automated phone line for the complete week. The advert stated a 'small fee' however the cost for a full 7 days was £83.40 which, as a pensioner, I don't necessarily consider a 'small fee'. That said we had a great stay and really enjoyed our holiday.

Thank you very much for your kind remarks. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay. We are extremely sorry to hear that your mobile network failed to load the Just Park App. In all fairness the car park signs clearly state that if this happens there is a telephone number to contact - “No smartphone? Call 01234 862 178. Pay in under 2 minutes.” And that a 7 day pass is available to buy for £50. This enables parking only metres from ‘Mackerel Sky’. We would like to take this opportunity to point out that our webpage wording has always mentioned that alternative parking is available “for a fee”. It seems you might have misinterpreted this. • "Possibly worth including a note that larger cars may have limited success with the car park out the back as there was really only the top space and the corner space against the building that would accommodate an estate car without largely blocking carpark access for other vehicles."

Other than that we had an amazing stay.

Thank you for your feedback. We do state that parking is available on a first-come-first-served basis. We do also provide alternative parking options about 100m from the property. - Cornish Cottage Holidays. Property Owner

  • "Lovely clean flat."

Convenient location for beach and restaurants. No issues with parking in March. Plenty of places to visit even off season. Quite a lot of do’s and don’ts instructions posted around the flat. One small niggle, one of the missives instructed us to strip the bed and place linen in bag provided, no problem with stripping the bed, but where was the bag? Also no spare bin bags for kitchen bin.

Thank you for taking the time to leave valuable feedback. We are delighted that you found ‘Mackerel Sky’ to be a “lovely clean” property and appreciated its location close to beach and restaurants and with plenty of places to visit within easy reach. We are sorry that you were irritated by our requests to guests. They are intended to help guests enjoy an easy, comfortable and safe stay at ‘Mackerel Sky’ and to maintain its high standards for the benefit of future visitors. We’re sorry you didn’t find the bag left for bed linen. Property Owner

The owners were very helpful throughout our stay, quickly responding to any of our questions. Location is spot on, just a few yards from the beach and fantastic views (and access) to Ste Michael’s Mount. It’s also minutes from the local bus services which provide east access to all parts of the peninsular. With parking such a premium, we simply parked up and left the car pretty well for the week, and used the bus to access loads of places, walks and beaches. Very happy with the property and the area, and would be happy to recommend. Thanks for a lovely stay.

  • "Mackerel Sky provided us with an ideal base to holiday in Cornwall."

It's contemporary decor and attention to detail was a delight. The housekeeper clearly takes pride in their work as it was spotlessly clean. Everything to get you started is there. Tea, coffee, milk and a very welcome cream tea. The local shops and pubs are on the doorstep including a very nice fish and chip shop. There are three main supermarkets a short drive away. Parking onsite is limited but was not a problem for us as we found a space whenever we needed it. Communication with the owners was speedy, very friendly and helpful. I have no hesitation in highly recommending Mackerel Sky for couples of all ages.

  • "Only downside was small double bed."

Used to larger bed and huge hotel beds. Didn't sleep well and got bad back. If you are fine with smaller double beds then would certainly recommend this property. Also steep outside steps difficult to heave up cases. We are an older couple.

Thank you for your feed back. We are delighted that you enjoyed your recent stay so much that you gave a 100% grading for the overall standard of Mackerel Sky: thank you. We are sorry you didn’t sleep well, especially as guests usually find the bed very comfortable. However, we realise that a standard size double bed might seem small in comparison with the huge hotel beds which you mention. It's a shame the stairs to this first floor apartment proved rather steep when carrying up your luggage, but hope that the sea views, views of the causeway and of the surrounding countryside made your choice of a first floor apartment worthwhile. • "The apartment is light and airy and the location is fantastic."

Unfortunately the apartment below was having building work done and there was very loud constant drilling and hammering until 7pm every night which did mean that spending time in the apartment was impossible. We picked this property as it was in a quiet location so we had a quiet relaxing holiday however this was not the case. However the property itself was lovely.

We are delighted that you were so pleased with the standard of the accommodation and its location. We are sorry that you felt that noise from the renovations to the downstairs apartment detracted from your enjoyment. We had included in the welcome pack a note to advise guests to contact the owner or Sykes if disturbed as he had agreed he would down tools if this was the case. The noisy work downstairs will be completed this weekend. • "The accommodation was excellent, as advertised."

The property had all the comforts of home providing a good standard of accessories within the apartment. I was slightly apprehensive about being able to park, however there was no need to be as not only is there parking available at the property on a first come first serve basis but the management have negotiated free parking with the local car parks which are around 100 yards away from the property. Permits are supplied for both. The one drawback which was probably out of the control of the management company was building work taking place next door. The management company point out that it is advisable to leave the windows on a vent setting to allow circulation of air within the property throughout the day. Unfortunately this had the effect of allowing an ingress of dust to enter the property from the building work taking place. The work commenced at 08:00 each morning and resulted in some noise from the mechanical diggers employed. This is only temporary and will not be an issue when the next door work has been completed.
