  • "Have stayed here once before Would definitely stay again."

Lovely property, fantastic location Warm and comfortable. Very well equipped kitchen. Plenty of areas to relax. Well appointed bedrooms and bathrooms

  • "Really great stay for Christmas week, Ruth couldn’t have been more helpful."

Spotlessly clean. Really good well equipped kitchen. Only thing that really lets it down is the garden is not secure, and shouldn’t be advertised as secure there is a whole corner of the back of the garden that is open and drops down onto a field that has sheep on it. Apart from that really great location, we had lots of fun and I would recommend to anyone.

  • "Great holiday, accommodation ideal for our needs."

I would suggest that the owner revisit the quest information book as there is a few items that conflict and cause confusion eg arrival and departure times, rubbish collection. Sykes cottages should also provided the opportunity to state bed arrangement’s when these can be varied.

  • "The cottage was spacious with fantastic views and enviable location."

It fully accommodated six adults and a child . There was a huge TV lounge with games and space to chill. The kitchen was well appointed. However there is need of updating and TLC. The washing line broke it was rusted. The garden table was broken it couldn’t be extended. The holiday information folder needs to be completely updated it is muddled and confusing. There was damp spots and peeling paintwork. The most disappointing part of the holiday let is there were no White Company toiletries just supermarket hand wash. This is the most we’ve ever spent on a weeks rental I just didn’t expect it to be so tired with missing luxury touches as advertised.

Such a stunning location and very easy to access to town centre. The kitchen was fabulous and had everything we needed and more. The scones that greeted us on our arrival were a classy touch and the rooms with the beautiful views will stay with us for a long time to come. Such a special holiday.

The leaflets on what's on and about could do with a refresh, we did add some we found locally and the cooker was confusing to use maybe some written instructions would help. Minor thingsm, we could not fault our stay.

Great features and plenty of space. Great range of equipment in the kitchen. Views from the cottage were so great we didn’t want to leave. Only 2 issues the kitchen tap drips constantly needs some attention. Also the kettle leaks water and the base is covered in water which needs to be wiped before use. Other than that fantastic holiday and thank you.

So glad you enjoyed the holiday and a million apologies about the tap. We have a new one beinf replaced next week. Thanks Nicky Property Owner

  • "The entry time of 5."

00 and exit time of 9.00 were hard, reason given was for a deep clean. As we arrived at approx 3.10 and parked to go for a walk into Tintagel so did the cleaners and on returning just before 5.00 they were packing up. We had no complaints the cottage was clean but there was no way a deep clean could have been completed in the time. We had a lovely week the view from the cottage was outstanding, the surrounding walks amazing. Merlins Cottage certainly met all our needs.

Thank you for your feedback for Merlins Cottage. The strict check-in/out times were due to the covid cleaning scedules, this has now been amended on the system and we apologise this wasn't amended for you. Thank you for the kind comments about the cottage, we are glad you had a lovely week. Property Owner

  • "Overall we (2 families with tweens/teens and 2 dogs) had a fabulous week at Merlin's and would thoroughly recommend it."

Teething issues with a non working shower and blocked shower drain were resolved quickly. The cottage is in a fabulous position for walking the coastal path to Trebarwith strand and Tintagel and as far as you want to go. The views from the cottage are just beautiful as are the sunsets. The bedrooms are all a very good size. As a dog friendly cottage we would really recommend a fence to stop the dogs wandering out. It would be a great addition to this otherwise lovely cottage.

Thank you so much for your feedback. You’ll be pleased to hear we now have a new fence going around the garden so it will be totally secure for dogs! Thanks Nicky Property Owner

Great for a morning run or walk to get Pasties in Tintagel. We were 3 adults and 4 children and had a great amount of space considering the Atlantic Storm kept us in more than we had hoped. Good selection of board games, great cooking facilities and unlike other posts felt it was well equipped (soap etc). Beds were comfy, house was warm and an area adults could sit in away from the kids. 2 beaches close by but a walk to get there but worth it. For us it worked out perfectly (just wish the sun had come out more) and would recommend to friends.

  • "Merlins cottage is a lovely place, the cottage has everything you need with lots of space for different age groups to enjoy."

The views of the coast are stunning and its so easy to walk the coast path directly from the cottage. Better directions to the cottage would be helpful, as it is down a small track and the sat nav only takes you to the end of the road, there is no signage for the cottage at this point so its tricky to find, especially if you arrive in the dark. However once you find it it is a stunning place.

The house was perfect for us: spacious, comfortable, warm, and cosy. We especially loved the sun room with the beautiful view out to sea. The coast path is just a few minutes walk away and we walked on it, both west to Trebarwith strand, and east to Tintagel and beyond. We had a couple of issues that Sarah responded to promptly. • "The house is in an excellent location, it has great potential, the beds were excellent, very comfortable."

Unfortunately the house is looking tired. We paid over £2.5k I see next year same time is over £4.5K. You cannot charge 5 star prices for 3 star accommodation. The kitchen tap drips I left a message with the housekeep during the week on an answer phone. The showers had signs of black mould on grouting, cob webs in areas, decoration showing signs of wear, the cooker had no instructions and temp gauge had no markings so had to guess. Pots and pan looking in need of replacement. Garden bench broken. This house could be very lovely but let down by lack of TLC

The property

Situated down a quiet farm track, Merlins cottage has spectacular sea views and is surrounded by National Trust Farmland.

The historic town of Tintagel is just a 5-minute walk over the fields and directly ahead lies the famous South West Coastal Path, giving you access to some the most stunning walks in the country.

All rooms at the front of the house enjoy breathtaking coastal views and the rear of the property looks out over miles of open farmland.

Merlins Cottage is ideal for large gatherings, with ample private parking for up to four vehicles and set in an idyllic location, with superb panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean.

As you enter the property, coats and boots can conveniently be left in the entrance porch before entering the spacious farmhouse kitchen, which is complete with an open fire and weathered flagstone flooring.

The kitchen is an ideal space to cater for large groups, with a dishwasher, two fridge/freezers and a large Range cooker, while the dining table is conveniently placed at the far end of the kitchen, giving it a lovely open-plan feel.

Leading off from the kitchen/diner are two generous sitting rooms with an inter-connecting archway; the rooms are separated by a beautiful, heavy curtain, so while some guests may choose to watch TV, others can curl up with a book by the wood- burning stove.

The conservatory overlooks the enclosed garden to the front of the property and has a stunning ocean view; families with children can enjoy watching the children outside from the warmth and comfort of the conservatory, a big attraction when the wind blows!

The extensive lawn is big enough to kick a ball around and a gravelled area with furniture is perfect for enjoying the view over an alfresco meal in the sunshine.

Merlins Cottage has a beautiful garden overlooking the sea that has recently been fenced so is now completely contained for pets.

The garden is contained at the front with an attractive wooden picket fence and all other borders are fenced with a discreet mesh wire within the hedge so that pets cannot escape onto the road or into neighbouring gardens.

There is a king-size bedroom on the ground floor with zip and link beds, so it can easily be made into a twin if required, while the adjoining en-suite shower room makes it an ideal space for any guests with mobility issues.

Heading upstairs, you will find three generously sized bedrooms; a double with en-suite bath and shower and two further doubles with a shared shower room.

A great deal of care and attention has gone into creating maximum comfort in each room; the mattresses are of extremely high quality and the linen is all Egyptian Cotton of the highest thread count and sourced from The White Company.

The boiler runs efficiently, making sure that there is plenty of hot water on demand after returning from chilly days at the beach.

The owners firmly believe that comfort is all in the detail and that is what sets this house apart.

Tintagel itself is an ancient town steeped in history and the legend of King Arthur.

Tintagel Castle is just a short walk from the house and visitors can now access the castle from the mainland to the headland over the jaw-dropping new footbridge that was erected in 2018 to global acclaim.

After visiting the castle, you can explore Merlin's Cave, a 330-foot-long sea cave set below the castle which is said to be the home of Merlin the wizard. Tintagel village has range of shops, pubs, cafés and restaurants which are all just a short walk away, also within walking distance are several sandy beaches, including Trebarwith Strand and Bossiney Cave, both of which boast fantastic waves for any budding surfers, while Trebarwith Strand is safe for swimming and surfing, with a team of lifeguards permanently on standby.

Follow the coastal path just a short distance up the coast and you will reach the picturesque fishing village of Boscastle, where you can explore the Museum of Witchcraft and Magic or find time to relax in one of the many cafes.

Along the way to Boscastle, be sure to stop off at St Nectan's Glen, a stunning woodland area, rich in wildlife and complete with an impressive 60 foot waterfall.

Head south along the coastal path and you will reach the historic village of Port Isaac, which you may recognise from popular TV dramas including Fisherman’s Friends and Doc Martin.

A few miles on and you reach Polzeath, which has a wide range of shops and surfing facilities.

Merlins Cottage is a truly magical property with outstanding views and is ideally suited for exploring the dramatic North Cornwall coastline with friends and family.
