  • "We stayed a this lovely cottage over New Year."

We really enjoyed our stay although the weather was awful. Communication from the owners was good and the property was immaculately clean on arrival. Appreciated the cream tea that was left by the owners for our arrival. Our older dog could not manage the stairs but she was comfortable in the ground level hallway which is spacious. Easy walk into Porthleven. With the weather being so bad it would have been better if there was a secure area outside to let the dogs out in as the winds and rain were relentless at times. We would stay again preferably in better weather to enjoy the outside balcony area with amazing views.

  • "Pen Chy was a warm and very comfortable stay."

The open plan first floor kitchen and dining room made it special with views over the fields. The kitchen was well equipped and everything was clean and in working order. The location was ideal for exploring the Lizard Peninsula. There is plenty of space for 4 people and we would recommend this property, for a lovely stay in Porthleven.

  • "Pen Chy has a great location, within walking distance of Porthleven."

The house is very modern and clean and comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped and the lounge area is very spacious and comfortable too. When the weather is good, the balcony with sea view is lovely for a morning coffee. We visitors as a family of 2 adults , 1 child and 1 small dog and I would say it was the perfect size for our needs.

  • "Such a tastefully furnished and comfy place - even nicer than the photos had led us to believe."

Everything went so smoothly from arrival to check-out with clear directions an easy key safe and then the cottage itself was easy to look after. All the things we needed to know were clearly laid out in the welcome file and we could get on with our holiday. Porthleven is a lovely little fishing town, now largely given over to tourism but it retains a character that some larger towns seem to have lost. We loved walking into the town, particularly once we had discovered the inland route. There is a good fishmonger, a fabulous coffee shop and several pubs and restaurants that we did not try, preferring our home from home at Pen Chy. We did however visit the Ship Inn and had a wonderful meal with delicious local beer.

  • "Great location to access this part of Cornwall."

Pen Chy has everything we needed. It was clean, very comfortable and in a great location. Our daughter described it as her LA studio by day and New York Apartment by night. Happily spend hours looking at the views. Very close to Penrose which has nice walks and dog friendly. We've lots of lovely memories from our week there.

  • "Pen Chy is stunning."

Being 'upside down' means the views are wonderful especially from the amazing, glass surrounded balcony. It is extremely well equipped and everything is very good quality. The owners are really friendly and helpful and their dog Nala is beautiful. We just thought that if we ever stayed there with friends it might be awkward having to go into their bedroom to access the wardrobe as there isn't ond in the main bedroom, however this is a minor point compared to all the plus points. They even left milk in the fridge and svones, home made jam and clotted cream. Lovely!!!

Property adjoins the family home of the owners, but they are very friendly, but not at all instrusive - thank you to them once again for the sea bass!. One small point I forgot to mention to the owners was that the USB port in the twin-bedroom makes a buzzing\warbling noise and seems to get a bit warm if used, so suggest it needs looking into - the noise could be an issue to someone sleeping in that room.

Thanks for the lovely feedback on the USB plug we will get our electrician to look into it Austen & Cally Property Owner

We had a wonderful week - helped by the glorious weather - and the house was perfect for us. Spacious and light with good facilities. We had a wedding locally hence staying in Porthleven but it was a great location for exploring Cornwall and we had days in Lands End/ Lizard Point/ Praa Sands/ St Ives all in easy reach. The Penrose area next door is perfect for dogs and we there pretty much every day - sometimes just for a mile or 2 in the evening and other days a much longer walk.

The only reason it didn't get 5stars from us was a personal thing, it was so close to the lane and we are not used to road noise at night, some of the users seem to think they had to floor the accelerator to see how fast they could go!!

  • "Well situated for walking."

Comfortable lounge. Cosy. For us the downside was that the bedrooms being downstairs and almost on the road offered no privacy and whatever time of day, one had to close the curtains and put the light on as the quite busy road with traffic also has many walkers passing by who look straight in! The approach to the property is pitch black, the outside light needs to be stronger as we arrived in the dark and took an age to see the property and key code!

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback. We have taken you comments on board, we are looking into a curtain that will let light in and give privacy. I am sorry you missed my messages to you asking your time of arrival, and I simply forgot to turn the big lights on. Hope to welcome you back to Pen Chy. Property Owner

It had everything we needed and the welcome pack for our dog was a nice touch! There was parking for one car on site and the owners directed us to other nearby parking places. It took us around 20 minutes to walk to the centre of Porthleven. One friend found it difficult to walk back up to the property but it was always easy to organise a taxi. The Atlantic Inn was nearby and offered a good range of food and drink. We had a relaxing week and would recommend the property.

The yard you have to park your car in let's the property down alot. The owner was very flippant when asked about parking our other car to the point of rudeness.

We appreciate your comments but It is a shame that these guests did not read the listing properly before booking. It states parking for one car. There are two alternative parking spots, nearby, which they were directed to. Everyone else leaves glorious reviews in our guestbook and the whole experience of sharing Pen Chy has been a pleasure . The only problems we had were with 2 elderly dogs that found it difficult to manage the wooden staircase to the upper living area. If they were a year or 2 younger it wouldn't have been a problem for them. As a sea angler myself, I would have found it useful to know at the time of booking that Austen is a charter fishing skipper, but still we very much appreciated he brought us back some fresh fish!

About the location

PORTHLEVEN

Helston 3 miles; Penzance 10 miles; Hayle 11 miles; St. Ives 17 miles; Falmouth 17.5 miles.

Porthleven is one of south west Cornwall’s hidden, coastal gems, located near Helston, famous for its annual Flora Dance Festival. Situated between Lizard Point and Land’s End, Porthleven retains the feel of a traditional Cornish fishing village, enjoying uninterrupted views of the Atlantic Ocean and the beautiful Cornish coastline. The iconic clock tower sits on the harbour entrance and the pubs, shops, cafés and restaurants cluster around the historic picturesque inner harbour, where there is plenty of boating and marine activity. With a warren of streets lined with classic Cornish, granite cottages, an extensive beach manned with lifeguards, the chance for alfresco dining in one of a number of well reviewed restaurants, and crabbing off the harbour, there are plenty of activities for the whole family to enjoy, all year round. Porthleven is building a reputation for eating out with a popular food festival established in the spring. Out of season, Porthleven has one of the best surf breaks in the country where you can sit down and get lost for hours watching the energetic surfers riding the waves. There are some fabulous hidden coves along this stretch of coastline, including Praa Sands, Poldhu Cove, and Rinsey, a magical setting for the more energetic. You may have even seen pictures of Porthleven on television, being one of the best spots in the UK for storm watching, with the crashing winter waves often being used as the backdrop to weather forecasts. Walkers will enjoy the South West Coast Path, adventuring west past Rinsey Head with spectacular views, or south across Loe Bar to Penrose Estate with its National Trust cafe, and on to Gunwalloe Church Cove. Take a trip to the Isles of Scilly by boat or plane and marvel at the display of sub-tropical gardens at the stunning Tresco Abbey. The Eden Project near St. Austell offers an interesting day out. Porthleven is the ideal base for discovering the delights of west Cornwall and the Lizard Peninsula.
