. The letdown was the cleanliness and the beds.Worn out mattresses, blood stained pillows, dirty laundry, broken beds, dust and mouldy walls. I do have photos of these areas. Kind regards. D Andrews

  • "We first stayed at this house in 2020."

It has improved very little since then. There appears to be little to no cleaning done between changeovers. The ensuite was particularly disgusting. The annexe which we had planned to let our teens stay in was in an awful state so we just shut the door and left it. The cleaning between lets seems to be a common theme, as this has been noted in many reviews, hopefully this can be dealt with so it doesn't continue.

  • "Overall the house was great and we would go back, unfortunately the annex needed an hour of cleaning before we could use it , which isn’t acceptable."

The back garden is a massive let down, it’s unkempt, everything is covered in bird poo, we couldn’t even just wipe them down , they needed jet washing, such a shame!

We are delighted you enjoyed Stone's Throw, we are sorry the annexe and garden were not up to standard, we do wish you had made us aware of the issues you encountered as we would have been able to rectify these for you. To clarify for future all issues you raised have now been dealt with. We hope to welcome you and your family back in the near future. Property Owner

  • "Had a lovely week with family over Xmas - property was ideal ."

Location is great and house comfortable for 2 families . Annex is useful addition and nice escape from busy house as needed . There are a few maintenance comments below that could be addressed for the future but no need to publish this as these did not detract from our overall enjoyment but need to rectified . Needs new bulbs in light above cooker - too dark to cook - we added our own plug in light to rectify whilst we were there . Needs new lights in kitchen - a few bulbs gone and some remaining are very dim Light under kitchen cabinet first on left not working Blind in sitting room not able to be pulled up as chain broken . Second set of keys not for this property - none of the keys fitted any doors leaving only one key for the property . Plug Socket in enterance hall on right does not work Shower drain in Annex was sluggish Small round black bin at the front of the property doesn’t have a lid and so was used as a general use bin for those walking past - and filled to the top with rain water . Heating unpredictable in the main house - was sometimes warm but often cool - and no pattern to the timings that we could fathom .

  • "Stones Throw is a lovely place."

It’s the perfect location, only a short walk to the beach and the pub. The cottage is furnished well and has everything you need but is looking a little tired, though things wear out so much quicker in holiday rentals. We loved our stay and are thinking of returning.

  • "Hi, This is the second year we've stayed at Stones Throw and would love to stay a 3rd but have to admit there are a few things that need addressing before we do ;- Firstly I paid nearly £700 more this year than last for the same location and period in same house, and seemingly £700 less than I would if I stayed next year so would like an explanation as to this cost increase please ?"

Secondly whilst some areas have clearly been improved upon ( the downstairs toilet being usable for example ) others have not :- the mattress in the main bedroom needs replacing as the springs are exhausted - I note this has been left in feedback previously by others so looks like not been attended too despite it giving you the feeling you are rolling out of bed when you are in it ( I had to sleep in the bunk bed with my daughter instead of with my wife :-( ), the weeds on the patio are overgrown and coming through the joints in the slabs - again highlighted by others, and all 4 of the plastic chairs in the garden area are broken and unsafe to use, which is a shame when you are there to be sunbathing and have to lie on a towel on slabs instead ? On the positive side the TV's have been upgraded and are both very good, the house is large and airy, which is why we like it so much, and the place is clean and tidy, although there was no welcome pack this year which is something we really appreciated last time after such a long journey to get there.. All in all we love Porthtowan, and love this house and location but for the cost I expected better and think it needs a little investment to bring it upto scratch. Regards

Having discussed your points with the property management team, it has been advised that mattresses will be looked at being replaced as part of the winter maintenance. New garden furniture has replaced the old. We have also flagged the issues with the garden to the regular gardener. We do hope to welcome you back to Stones Throw for a 3rd time. Property Owner

  • "The house was clean and tidy when we got there, plenty of crockery in the kitchen."

Fridge door is a nightmare not closing you have to push it shut, bin could do with being somewhere else but it’s hiding the end of cupboard where it’s been wet. The annexe mattresses really need renewing badly, and the garden could do with cutting back the bushes. General clean in garden, and window frames also could do with good clean. Other to that lovely place and village.

Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback. We have had the fridge door checked and there appears to be no issues with it now. Stones Throw has a regular window cleaner and gardener who attend frequently due to the proximity to the sea. Property Owner

It was exactly what we needed as extended family having a holiday together. We had to reschedule for two years because of Covid but were delighted to finally be able to get to Cornwall and to have such a lovely base! The beds were amazingly comfortable, the towels were the softest I’ve ever felt, (would love to know where they came from) and the little touches were lovely! Thank you!

  • "Overall the cleanliness of Stones Throw was poor."

It need a deep clean as there was thick dust on top of the furniture and kitchen cupboards. Also dirty sink in kitchen. The wardrobe in the double bedroom was torn. On the plus side the amount of kitchen , plates , cutlery, cooking dishes was amazing . Apart from a few chipped mugs. The outside of the property was very untidy...weeds growing all over the patio and around the whole property. The seating area needs maintaining, and cleaning as do the pathways that are green . The paths need sweeping and we had cockroaches outside the back door at night! We had to clean the windows of the annex as they were filthy. The garden is not child friendly, toddler friendly, with sharp pointy plants. Overall a LOT of TLC is required and maintenance to the exterior of this property. All of the problems can be evidenced with photographs if required. Overall we were very disappointed with the property and price charged for the time of the year.

Thank you for taking the time to send us your feedback. We are sorry to hear that you encountered some issues. Had you made us aware of these issues during your stay we would have done our best to rectify them for you at the time. We were surprised to hear about the outside space as this area is attended to regularly along with the windows which are also regularly cleaned. The points you have raised will be checked and attended to if needed. Property Owner

It was very roomy and had plenty of space. It was clean and tidy. My only issue was that it was a very cold house and the radiator in the entrance hallway wasn’t working. We turned the heating up to get the house warm but after a day the heating control went onto eco mode and needed a pin to change the temperature which we didn’t have so the hallways and kitchen remained cold there was a heater in the front room which was a great help.

Please to hear you enjoyed your stay at Stones Throw. If you had made contact with us we would have been happy to a just the temperature for you and override the eco mode. Thank you for informing us about radiator which now is being investigated Property Owner

I did raise a few concerns whilst we were away that need immediate attantion however : 1. Front door key very stiff 2. Downstairs toilet couldnt be used as was blocked 3. no hooks for coats in hallway - these would be handy as nowhere to hang coats 4. Light bulbs needs changing in front rooms 5. Annexe was a little smelly - bit damp smell. Apart from this the place was fantastic - great location - close to beach, pub and shop. The house was fully stocked of kitchen equipment, bedding and plenty of towels. We absolutely loved it and the few issues I raised didnt worry us at all, as we understand things will have wear and tear.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay at Stonesthrow and will look forward to welcoming you back. Thank you also for informing us of the concerns you had while staying at Stonesthrow. We will now look into the issues. Property Owner

Left us a mouldy travel cot which was replaced but late in evening. Kitchen cooker extractor fan was dripping with fat. Downstairs toilet and utility needed some tlc Upstairs bathroom had mould around the bath. Not nice for anyone but wasn’t happy my grandchildren were going in it! I have taken pictures to prove all of this. If those things were all rectified I am sure it would have been fine!

The annex could do with either taking down or re doing as there is a powerful smell of damp as u walk in. The garden is nice but people need to get there mess up as there was dog poo when we got there. Beach not to far either. All in all we would definitely stay here again. Thank you for lovely time. The property is exactly as described. A great location, just a couple of minutes walk from the beach. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you could possibly need, even a slow cooker. I think it’s the remote that is the issue, plus no WiFi in annex. GF toilet in poor condition broken toilet seat and water leak, plus grout is black and room very dirty. We had to buy cleaning equipment as floors and kitchen was dirty. The house is perfect for 2 families and location was great. Would be great to have bigger TV in lounge and TV in main bedrooms but just a suggestion. We would return if item fixed and cleanliness improved. Thank you. Location was perfect and a great beach.

Thank you for taking the time to bring these issues to our attention. Please accept our sincere apologies for the fact that the cleaning was not up to our usual standard, we take this very seriously and have taken this matter up with our Housekeeper. However only half the toaster works. Cleaning was an issue, cleaners did not clean underneath the beds or sofas. We were also left with the previous occupants stinking contents of the wheelie bins, to the point where my husband physically bagged all the loose rubbish and washed the bins himself, not acceptable. Bed linen and towels of excellent quality, rear double bedroom mattress is soft to the point of inducing back ache in the strongest of backs. Other than the above we are dismayed to be unable to book the same week next year so 2021 it is. Porthtowan is perfect for our family group and we can’t wait to return.

Very well appointed, spotlessly clean and spacious. Crisp bedding and such comfortable beds (possible exception to that were the day beds in the annexe) Five minute walk from the beautiful Porthtowan beach. Within easy reach of many attractions, St Ives ( park and ride at Lelant Saltings and catch train into town, the most stunning scenery in a15min ride you may ever have) Lands End, Eden Project, I could go on. We had a small issue when the downstairs loo stopped flushing, a quick phone call to Mark at Sykes, (it was 6.15pm and I really thought we were going to get the answer phone service suggesting we call back tomorrow morning) and the maintenance team had been and gone before we'd even had time to miss it
