The property

This gorgeous semi-detached cottage has been finely restored from a 300-year old inn, which stood derelict for many years, in the centre of St Columb Major. The cottage has beautiful finishing and contemporary styling, with a light and airy feel in the open plan living area, which has original timber flooring throughout, and with a beautiful Shaker-style kitchen with black granite worktops and a natural slate floor. Perfect for a group of four, this St Columb cottage has two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The stone courtyard at the rear of your cottage in St Columb catches the sun, and is a pleasant area to enjoy a refreshing drink. The shops, historic buildings and inns are a stone's throw from this St Columb cottage, and the popular sandy beaches around the Newquay area are only a fifteen minute drive. These beaches are safe, sandy, regularly have clean surf and have plenty of activities going on in season. From this St Columb cottage there are many other visitor attractions on offer, including the Cornish Birds of Prey Centre, Buccaneer Bay pirate centre, Newquay Zoo and the Blue Reef Aquarium. And of course, there are always numerous magnificent coastal walks and Cornish sub-tropical gardens to enjoy when you stay in this character cottage in St Columb.

    • “Absolutely beautiful, loved everything about this cottage and will most definitely be back. The location is ideal as it is easy to get to places yet quiet and private. It has its own parking (always a plus in that neck of the woods) and a lovely local pub that does great food. Well laid out, very nicely decorated and has all the mod cons you need. Wish it was mine!!!”

    • “We stayed here with another couple, and the place had everything we could possibly need. It was immaculate, comfortable, and convenient - we could walk to a grocery store and great take-out places. Well-decorated, satellite tv, two great bathrooms! Good base for exploring Cornwall.”

    • “This cottage has the wow factor as soon as you walk in. The photos do not do it justice. St Columb Major is a lovely little village with local shops and pubs also very central for getting out and about. Visited Lands End which did take about 1hr 20, Padstow, Port Isaac where they were filming Doc Martin, Sennen Cove which is beautiful, loads of other towns and villages, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Cornwall and cannot wait to go back.”

    • “Good service from start to finish. Home was beautifully decorated and nice and central for sight seeing. National Trust properties close by, nice walks, beautiful coastline and interesting towns. Only blip was not being able to find the house easily-perhaps instructions could be improved? We couldn't see the name 'The Old Smithy' anywhere. Otherwise 10/10.”

    • “Fantastic place to stay!”

    • “Turned up on the Saturday pm where we were meet by the owner as there was a problem with one of the lights in the bathroom, she had a electrican turning up at any moment to fix it. She left us to settle in and unpack whilst the light was getting fixed, once this was done she wished us a great time and lefted. There was a bottle of red wine on the side and cream teas two great touches. The conversion is done to a very high standard spotless throughout, very clean even though pets have been welcome in this cottage. Beds were made in both bedrooms and towels on the beds too. Never heard of st columb major before, but it is an excellent base to get to Newquay, st Ives, Edan project, within 30mins. There's a co-op just across the square which is a 2min walk which is great to get a morning paper! And a local butchers too. There are a one or two things I would ask to change, another chair in the lounge area, DVD player in lounge for those cold nights in,some more hangers in the wardrobes and some shelves in the bathrooms so you can put the toiletries on. Other than that this is a 5 star cottage and would recommend to anyone wishing to visit Cornwall.”

    • “We stayed at The Old Smithy last year and everything was just as good this year. The cottage has such a high standard with everything, can't fault it in any way. It is ideally located in the middle of St Columb Major, with everything on your doorstep, and nowhere in Cornwall is too far to visit from this location, ideal. Will definitely be back again next year!”

The local butcher has a good selection of quality meats and the cottage is only a stones' throw from the co-op too; great for any forgotten items. We were very lucky with the weather and visited Watergate Bay each morning to walk the dog before then exploring in the afternoon. This is a fantastic place and we are already planning for next year.”
