  • "Mandy and Keith were very welcoming."

Available for help but giving privacy too. Cottage in a lovely, quiet location with an enclosed garden which was great for our puppy. Both cottage and garden were well maintained and very clean providing a comfortable stay in a beautiful part of Cornwall.

  • "We had a fantastic week away and found the cottage to be even better than the description."

It was perfect for two adults, a child and a dog! We were all made to feel very welcome but not intruded upon and the property felt private despite the owners being next door. The location was peaceful and a great base for exploring west Cornwall, with beaches nearby. We would definitely recommend and revisit!

Good base for exploring Cornwall. The cottage was clean and had the basics needed for a self catering holiday, we ate out so can't comment on the use of kitchen equipment! The owners are lovely people.

  • "We were quite happy with the accommodation."

However, because we are nearing Winter and Corona Virus is rampant in Cornwall at present, we decided to cater for ourselves. Being just 2 of us, that was not so bad, but I cannot imagine preparing meals for 4 adults in the kitchen. A complete steamer would have helped. The chairs in the kitchen were most uncomfortable, and they reminded me of those we used when I was a child in school and Sunday school, and the table too small for 4 adults to dine properly. I think the cottage is just suitable for 2 adults and 2 small children. Our dealings with Sykes were excellent in all respects.

  • "The location of the property is superb and acted as a great base for sigh seeing and beach trips."

When we weren't out, the property felt like a cosy home, lots of space to relax - the views in the garden are fantastic. The owners were very welcoming and offered advice on walks and beaches that were suitable for our 2 year old. Will definitely stay again in the future and would highly recommend.

The property

Old Chapel Cottage is a rural retreat in an area of outstanding beauty, located on the fringes of the National Trust's Godolphin House Estate, yet centrally located to all the attractions and many beaches and coves. With stunning views out of every window, this property is ideal for a family wanting to experience the tranquillity of the Cornish country.

Step down into the lovely cottage and be welcomed by an entrance hallway, leading onto the living area that features a TV and woodburner-effect stove to give it a homely feel.

If it isn't homely enough already, you can bring your dog along to join in the fun.

Stay downstairs and find a fully-equipped kitchen and dining area seating 4 people with an exposed stone wall that gives this cottage a real rustic feel.

The two bedrooms are located upstairs, both with ample amounts of storage space and with scenery-filled window panes offering marvellous views.

French doors lead out to the private garden.

Enjoy breakfast 'al fresco' in the private garden overlooking rolling countryside and at the end of the day relax and enjoy the spectacular sunsets with a glass of wine, and look out for the foxes, badgers and pheasants or even Aladdin, the pony which may pop his head over to say hello too.

Although the hamlet of Trescowe is a world away from the hustle and bustle, facilities such as garage, shop and pub are just down the road only 1 1/2 miles away.

Leaving the cottage, you can swap the calmness of the countryside for the bustling beach by surfing the high waves of the English Chanell in a matter of minutes, with Praa Sands Beach with it's beach bar and cafe.

just a short drive away.

A 10 minute drive will take you to pretty Prussia Cove (of Poldark fame), Perranuthnoe beach and Marazion with it's quaint buildings, shops, galleries, Inns restaurants and the island of St Michael's Mount reached by a causeway or boat and a 3 mile beach.

Also Porthleven, which is a pretty harbour with many little shops and restaurants (including Rick Steins), cafes and beach.

Slightly further afield, you can experience the energetic and unique Penzance, filled with tropical palm trees and excellent places to eat and drink, all whilst enjoying the wonderful coastal location.

Whatever you decide to do Old Chapel Cottage can be enjoyed at any time of the year.

About the location

PRAA SANDS

Marazion 4.5 miles ; Helston 6 miles ; Porthleven 5 miles

The village of Praa Sands sits on the south coast in between Helston and Marazion. Praa Sands is known for its mile-long sandy beach and excellent surfing conditions. There is a bar/restaurant overlooking the beach – the perfect spot for lunch with a view or sunset drinks. Praa Sands is also home to a Golf and Country Club, from where the most wonderful sea vista can be enjoyed whilst you play. Just inland from the beach is Pengersick Castle, the tower of which dates back to the 16th century. It is said that Pengersick is haunted, and that the ghost of a monk has been seen wandering the grounds! The house at Pengersick is rumoured to be the birth place of John Carter, the self styled King of Prussia and a tunnel which leads from the house to the beach was apparently once used by smugglers. There are supermarkets and other retail stores in Penzance (8 miles) and Helston (6 miles).
