  • "The owners have taken a lot of trouble to present a beautiful Cornish cottage just as it should be."

They are friendly and very approachable. The cottage is well equipped, cosy, comfortable and warm. It is also situated in a quiet piece of unspoilt Cornwall but within easy reach of amenities. We would highly recommend this cottage to those looking for a holiday base in Cornwall.

  • "Clean and comfy well stocked cottage in the heart of Cornwall."

Central location for visiting all popular tourist attractions and to explore lesser known areas. A little gem for peace and quiet, local amenities including pub a short drive away. I’m sure some great walks in the local area not explored this visit. Owner contactable and very friendly if required. Well worth a stay if you want countryside. A quiet lane runs up the side of the cottage which is great for walking dogs. I would stay here again.

We do our best to keep our customers happy and thank you for your kind comments. It would be lovely if you could visit again. Balliol and Estelle Fowden Property Owner

  • "We stayed for 14 nights."

This cottage has a lovely location and is very quiet. Fairly well equipped. Beds were comfortable and the Conservatory and excellent place to sit. However we felt the cleanliness let it down. when we arrived there was a musty smell in the house as if it had been shut up for a while, and there was a lots of dusty areas and cobwebs around. The countertops in both the kitchen and utility area were very sticky to the touch. I therefore spent the first evening dusting and wiping down the surfaces. Once this was done however we were able to enjoy our time here and the musty smell did clear with the windows open. The other issue is that the phone signal here for O2 is non existent but we were able phone call and text using the Wi-Fi. Calling. We did enjoy our stay and the lovely area and coves we visited made for a lovely holiday. Recommend the Halfway House on the main road to Helston, lovely food, also Pandora Inn great location. would not recommend the New Inn , tried twice to book but staff were rude so did not try 3rd time

Sorry to hear we didn’t meet your expectations on cleanliness. If you had let us know at the time, our housekeeper could have returned to remedy any deficiencies. It seems that the unusually wet weather brought forward the start of the spider season and although many were re-homed out of doors a few will return sometimes. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay in Cornwall and enjoyed some of its many delights. Property Owner

  • "What a wonderful cottage, the space and layout was brilliant for a little one, a teen and a Labrador, plus parents."

We loved the location, rural and quiet and some lovely walks with the dog. One of the best stocked kitchens I have ever seen, you could quite easily cater for more visitors and a lovely welcome gift. If you did fancy a drink it's around 20mins stroll to the New inn. The facilities were also fantastic as the washing machine came in very useful with the little one, we highly recommend this lovely cottage

Thank you for your lovely, detailed comments. Many people write lengthy and interesting entries in our visitors’ book and it’s pleasing for us and our housekeeper when they transfer to the Sykes Website. Brings a big, happy smile to all our faces. Property Owner

Appreciate the welcome gifts, milk etc.Lovely cosy feel and a very relaxing cottage with a beautiful garden. The conservatory is such a warm, comfortable place to relax in at the end of the day.

And it was lovely to have you visit again, especially one who leaves the cottage so beautifully clean. This is always very much appreciated by our caretaker of course, but especially so during this spell of exceptionally hot weather. Best wishes Estelle and Balliol. Property Owner

Really spacious, good bedrooms, a decent bathroom, good dining and living room area, nuclear hot conservatory, and lovely front garden. Perfect for 2 people for a week away with dogs. Great situation to explore the Cornish coast with visits to Falmouth, Argal, Glendurgan Gardens, Durgan Beach, Helford Passage, Gweek Seal Sanctuary, Flicka Donkey Sanctuary, Lizard Point, Kynance Cove and Mullion Cove, plus the beautiful St Mawes. Also walkable distance to the incredible Verdant Brewery Taproom, then short drive to Verdant Seafood Bar in Falmouth.

Thank you so much Nick for your kind and informative comments. The new conservatory has heat reflected glass on it’s roof but we are having extremely nice weather at the moment. It was really kind of you to water the garden and keep it looking so pretty. Must try the tap room. Property Owner

  • "We were relaxed from the minute we walked through the front door."

Eldamar Cottage was simply a home-from-home. It was so well equipped and comfortable. We did not realise that it was so remote from the village but, that said, it was perfect for a peaceful getaway. It was just so quiet and exactly what we needed after all the lockdowns and restrictions we have all had recently. We went out and about in the locality: Falmouth, Redruth, Penryn and even found a wonderful place called Durgan where there is a beautiful collection of bays and beaches. We normally stay on the other coastline (St Ives, Perranporth, St Agnes, etc) and have not stayed on "this side" before. Our grandson is attending Falmouth University so that was why we originally booked Eldamar Cottage, to be near him to visit, but we discovered all sorts of lovely places to go in addition. We can highly recommend Eldamar Cottage to everyone. Please do book it to stay, it has everything you could ever need. There is even a huge Asda about 4 minutes drive away to stock up on your food and drink!!

Although rural in location it is very well located for motorway access to visit other areas of cornwall. The village pub is within a short walk away, although I would not want to do this walk in the dark......there are no kerbsides to walk down the country lane. I would suggest a couple of small fans would be useful for the bedrooms in the summer months and I am not sure if your description states that the bathroom and the only WC is downstairs.....this was not a problem for us but it may be a concern for others. • "Sadly the main double bedroom was very damp and smells strongly of mould."

One of the walls has mould on it and the picture above the bed also. I spent the week on the sofa as I couldn't bare being in a damp room with my asthma. The kitchen had crumbs on the surface by the bread bin and toaster on our arrival. You can't close the conservatory windows so another damp unusable room as water collects on the window sills when it rains, I booked the cottage for this room as my son has autism and won't sit in the same room as others so he spent the week in his room.

We are sorry to hear that you have experienced some issues with our holiday home. If only you had made us aware during your stay we may have been able to address your concerns. Our housekeeper normally receives very good comments about her work, but it would seem that an oversight has occurred which we will address. In respect of the reported musty smell we recently replaced the old draughty wooden sash windows with new high performance windows. The old windows allowed the cottage to breathe rather too much! Perhaps the new ones have tipped the balance the other way, and we will address this. The timber framed single glazed garden annexe is a traditional structure which moves with the weather and was never intended to be insulated or sealed to the same standards as a house. Our recommendation (as stated in the cottage manual) is to always leave the fanlight windows open slightly to ventilate. As with everything in life there are always trade-offs. Eldamar Cottage is our dream holiday home. It is a beautiful traditional, characterful solid granite Cornish building, and there will always be some negative aspects to this in comparison to a modern property, which need to be borne in mind. • "We really enjoyed our holiday at Eldamar Cottage."

The cottage was well equipped and very clean and everything was as described. The only issue I felt was that the owner is very keen on recycling, which is fine. However when we arrived it was made clear that there would be only one rubbish collection (on the Monday after we arrived) and after that we were responsible for taking any further rubbish, from the last 5 days of our holiday, to the local recycling point and if we did not do that we should remove it from the premises when we left. (No rubbish was to be left on the premises when we departed). We have never come across this policy before in any of the many properties we have stayed in. We are also keen on recycling but feel it is asking a bit much to be expected to dispose of our own rubbish. We, of course are happy to bag and bin our rubbish but do not feel happy about being expected to take our own rubbish to the dump. This was definitely not shown to be part of "the deal" when we booked the cottage and if we had been aware we would probably not booked it. I have since spoken to the owner about this and I believe she will be contacting you to put something on your website.

Thank you for your kind comments regarding Eldamar Cottage. We have now been able to engage a local contractor to provide a rubbish and recycling collection service. Property Owner

It is ideal for families or a couple seeking extra space.

Pets can enjoy long walks up the lane by the side of the cottage.

Eldamar has its own private parking area with a gate into the enclosed front garden, all visible from the conservatory.

The pretty garden has traditional stone walls and well stocked borders.A picnic table is provided for those wishing to eat al fresco.

At the rear of the cottage is a further fully enclosed, sheltered, terrace garden with another picnic table and an area for a disposable barbecue.

The cottage faces east and the rear faces west, so when the sun is shining, there is always somewhere to sit and enjoy it.

The entrance is through a conservatory, a lovely place to sit for viewing the garden and the birdlife outside.

Once inside, you will then be greeted by a spacious, open plan, sitting/dining/ kitchen arrangement. There are two comfortable leather settees.

The large dining table can easily accommodate six for meals and board games.

This layout, with a half walled, country style, kitchen ensures that the duty cook need not feel excluded whilst preparing meals, and allows easy access to those wishing to lend a hand.

Through a door from the kitchen you enter a separate utility room, with a door leading to the bathroom and another door to the rear terraces.

The bedrooms upstairs, one double and two singles, are reached from open tread stairs in the main part of the cottage.

All bedrooms have wardrobes and drawers.Pleasant views can be enjoyed of the surrounding countryside, Argal Lake, and also Falmouth Bay on a clear day.The cottage is cosy, homely and welcoming.

The thick stone walls, many of which are exposed, coupled with the wood burning stove and oil fired central heating, mean that whatever the weather outside, you will be kept warm and roasty, toasty inside.

After a busy day on the beaches, coastal walking, castle visiting, or garden viewing, Eldamar Cottage is a lovely place to relax and unwind with a cup of tea or a glass of wine.

There are books to be read, games to play, DVD’s to wade through.

And, should you not wish to be disconnected, unlimited WIFI for a spot of idle googling.

However, should you wish to go out in the evenings, there are also a good choice of restaurants and pubs in Falmouth and the surrounding area.
