Lower Metherell is a peaceful quaint village with character Cornish cottages and two pubs with restaurants serving real ale and local produce. The village is two miles from the picturesque riverside village of Calstock, dominated by the majestic 120 feet high, twelve arch viaduct. Boats and canoes can be launched on the River Tamar and Calstock offers two local pubs, a village shop and an art gallery. Cotehele House, a 14th Century National Trust property, is a short 20 minute walk along the river from Calstock and is well worth a visit. The Tamar Valley branch line connects Plymouth to Calstock and the train journey boasts beautiful scenery. Further afield is the historic pannier town of Tavistock and the vibrant city of Plymouth has theatres, the Barbican quayside, marine aquarium and shops.

Catch a train to Plymouth on the small branch line to see the marine aquarium, the historic Barbican or enjoy a spot of retail therapy. Take a day trip to one of many local attractions, have an evening stroll along the river or pop into the friendly local pub which puts on an annual charity concert over August Bank Holiday weekend.
