Location: St Columb Major

Newquay 7 miles; Padstow 9 miles.

An old and picturesque market town sitting among the lush green countryside just five miles from the North Cornish coast. The resort attractions of Newquay including bars, clubs, zoo, vibrant shops, national surfing centre and fabulous beaches are just 7 miles away, while 9 miles in the other direction is the sleepy fishing harbour of Padstow. In between lies a beautiful section of the SW coast path, winding its way over the cliff tops, down to tranquil coves and across some of the region's top beaches. The surrounding area is also a visitor’s paradise with much to see and do. Stately homes, world-renowned gardens, adventure playgrounds and theme parks, model railways, fishing lakes, golf courses - they're all within 10 miles. Even the spectacular Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan, both on the other side of the county, are only 12 miles away.

The Property

This gorgeous semi-detached cottage has been finely restored from a 300-year old inn, which stood derelict for many years, in the centre of St Columb Major. The cottage has beautiful finishing and contemporary styling, with a light and airy feel in the open plan living area, which has original timber flooring throughout, and with a beautiful Shaker-style kitchen with black granite worktops and a natural slate floor. Perfect for a group of four, this St Columb cottage has two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The stone courtyard at the rear of your cottage in St Columb catches the sun, and is a pleasant area to enjoy a refreshing drink. The shops, historic buildings and inns are a stone’s throw from this St Columb cottage, and the popular sandy beaches around the Newquay area are only a fifteen minute drive. These beaches are safe, sandy, regularly have clean surf and have plenty of activities going on in season. From this St Columb cottage there are many other visitor attractions on offer, including the Cornish Birds of Prey Centre, Buccaneer Bay pirate centre, Newquay Zoo and the Blue Reef Aquarium. And of course, there are always numerous magnificent coastal walks and Cornish sub-tropical gardens to enjoy when you stay in this character cottage in St Columb.

The house is stunning - there was such a wonderful welcome with a cream tea waiting for us, and for our dog a pack of treats and towels for him if needed whilst we were there. Furnished to a very high standard making the stay feel very homely - would definitely recommend this to everyone.
Ms Williams, Salisbury, November 2012
