    • “Wonderful cottage- would recommend.”

    • “We stayed here for a week- 2 adults and a baby, with grandparents staying too. A warm welcome from the owner, well equipped accommodation and a great base from which to explore the Cotswolds and Wiltshire. Only problems were minor- we had to bring a travel cot but that was ok really, and the pub is not within walking distance. But overall wonderful and we would definitely recommend and return.”

    • “A very lucky, last minute find for us. Oxen cottage is so conveniently placed, just off the M4, but without any traffic noise. The Cotswold attractions and pretty villages are all within easy reach. More spacious than most holiday cottages, with top quality fixtures and fittings. Very comfortable. This is also one of the tidiest farms we have ever stayed on - no rusting machinery or bath tubs lying around! The owners are very friendly and welcoming; it feels as if you are staying with relatives. Highly recommended.”

    • “3 of us stayed in the Oxen Cottage in what proved to be a marvellous holiday location. Being near to the M6 gave us a gateway to many places, including "Steam" at Swindon. We loved that place, enjoyed the Museum, shopping and calling in also at the National Trust HQ there. We were able to visit many old properties nearby and the scenery all around was perfect. So was the weather! Thoroughly recommend the property to everyone. All rooms were beautifully furnished, the Hosts were very friendly and we loved the cows and calves in the field close by the Cottage.”

    • “This is a great converted barn set in the countryside but near enough to the M4 to travel easily around the area. It has all the facilities you could ever want in a holiday and the owners were so kind in leaving us goodies when we arrived. The cottage even has a jacuzzi! If you want a restful holiday this is the place for you. Can't recommend it highly enough.”

    • “A relaxing break”
    • tripadvisor rating
    • “We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Oxen Cottage. It is in a lovely location surrounded by meadows which provide grazing for sheep cows and horses. It was ideal for exploring the many picturesque villages and towns in the area and although the M4 is only a short distance away we rarely heard the noise of traffic. We found the cottage spotlessly clean and the owner a very friendly lady. The weather was very changeable during our stay and were please that we had the flexibility to regulate the heating to our needs. Our week passed far to quickly and I would recommend this property to my friends and family. I would however suggest that an internet connection is provided as if nothing else it would enable visitors to check the current opening times of attractions and view up to date menus in the many pubs and restaurants”

    • “Good location for exploring the local area”

    • “Overall it was a good location for us as we wanted to explore the area. There was a ton of rain and we had wished there more of a concrete pad to park on...to avoid stepping in puddles and mud on our way into the cottage. The cottage was well equiped with all the necessary supplies and dishes. We are early risers so we found that the heater was not programmed to come on until after we were already on the road. There is a great pub just up the road. As mentioned in other reviews - this cottage is just across the way from the owners, which in our case was fine. Also bein from outside the country we wanted to correspond about the property via email but the owners are more elderly and are not comfortable with electronic comminique”

    • “Lovely well equipped cottage but no garden!”
    • tripadvisor rating
    • “We stayed here as a family (mum, dad and two boys) and the cottage has fabulous facilities! However our 5 year old son was stir crazy as he couldn't go out to play (just whilst i prepared a meal or while he was waiting for the rest of us to get ready, that sort of thing) Whereas i realised it was a working Beef cattle farm, i didn't realise the door of the cottage was on the farm yard and perhaps would not have booked this cottage in particular had i have realised?! Also we felt a little over-looked as the cottage is on a T from the farmhouse, the cottage being the 'leg' part (farmhouse the top of the T) and as it was just the one holiday cottage, all eyes are on you. However, please dont mis-understand, the owners were very friendly and helpful and there was even fresh milk in the fridge upon our arrival! Even spare tea and coffee! I would stay there again without a doubt, just without the kids next time!”

    • “Mrs Ridout showed us through the entire property and explained everything necessary in detail - good service.. The interior was excelent, spacious and very clean. and contained everything required. The location was V Good just 2 miles to M4 but you obviously needed a car to get about.Visited Swindon, Chippingham, Marlborough, Malmesbury and other smaller locations. Marlborough was rather nice, having an extra wide main street - thus not overcrowded even when busy. Only one small matter to raise - that being the flies within the cottage, but after all it is a working farm. We certainly enjoyed our week and everything was of the high standard we have come to expect.”

About the location

Chippenham 5 miles; Malmesbury 6 miles.

The small North Wiltshire village of Upper Seagry is found in superb countryside only 5 miles north of the bustling market town of Chippenham, and 6 miles from the ancient town of Malmesbury. Close to the southern end of The Cotswolds, this rural location provides a great base from which to explore this fascinating area. There are ample footpaths and bridleways nearby, a visit to Malmesbury - with its 12th century Benedictine Abbey - is a must, whilst a trip to the Cotswold Water Park is a real treat. Westobirt Arboretum, with its extensive collection of trees and shrubs is not to be missed. Within an easy drive can be found the picturesque village of Castle Combe, also well known for its car racing track, and the quaint National Trust village of Lacock, used as the setting for the BBC TV serial Cranford. The impressive Roman city of Bath, Bowood House, and the ancient stone circle at Avebury are also easily accessible. This really is an excellent base for a relaxing and interesting break at any time of the year.
