Whilst close to pubs and shops, they are down a very steep hill, so not really walkable, but it does mean there are fantastic views across the valley from the lounge and main bedroom. Nicely located for exploring the Forest of Dean.

Very many thanks for taking the time to leave your kind feedback, you will be happy to know that both single beds have been replaced with super strong shinny new ones. Property Owner

  • "I booked The Stable for a family weekend break, 2 adults, 2 children under 12 and our dog."

I didn't have much in the way of expectation as we hadn't been to this part of the UK before but we had the most wonderful break. The photos of The Stable don't quite do it justice. It is beautifully decorated, thoughtfully equipped and comfortable. The views from the sitting room and main bedroom were breath taking. To add to this was the truly quaint surprise of the Steam Train coming along the bottom of the garden, some way away but visible and audible. It was the icing on the cake for us. The Stable and other apartments are on the main road, closer than we thought but the birds in the trees were more audible than traffic and so the road was of no real concern and caused no issues. Plenty of parking spaces for the 4 apartments too. Before we arrived we recieved a call from the owner to check estimated arrival times and to let us know we could be in the apartement an hour earlier than check in time of 3, which was lovely. A welcome basket with Easter goodies was warmly recieved and so thoughtful. The Stable is located 10 mins from Puzzlewood which we thoroughly recommend. 20 mins ish from Tintern where there is an Abbey we recommend seeing and 20 mins ish from Chepstow where we looked around the castle. The Stable is within walking distance of the High Street with a Tesco and petrol station and some lovely restaurants/take aways close by. The park and cafe set behind Lydney High Street were a lovely surprise, as was the public footpath opposite the house to which access is gained in the last road on the left as she come to The Stable, behind the houses to the right as you enter the road. We had breakfast in the garden overlooking the forest. The garden is beautiful and well kept and thoughtfully placed outdoor furniture is dotted around for sunbathing, eating and just watching the birds. Our children have told me they want to come back. We might just do that!

Very many thanks for your wonderful feedback, it really means a great deal to us. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you and your lovely family back to Highbury Coach House and the beautiful Forest of Dean. Property Owner

  • "We had a very enjoyable stay at The Stable."

It is in a lovely setting with a great view over Lydney and the Forest of Dean Steam Railway. The accommodation is comfortable, and will be even more so when the windows are double glazed. The kitchen is pretty well equipped, though it would be benefit from the addition of a bread board, a chopping board and some saucers. The exterior stairs leading up to The Stable (which is on the first floor) are not the easiest to negotiate, having a narrow tread and a quite high step. Previous visitors have commented on the noise from the road. We didn't find this a problem, but lots of local drivers seem to ignore the speed limit and there is no pavement immediately outside the site, so setting out on foot to explore Lydney or walk the dog involves an initial element of peril.

We really appreciate you giving us your feed back, and your comments will be taken on board and addressed where possible. We are delighted you enjoyed your stay in the Stables and hope too have the pleasure of welcoming you back to Highbury Coach House and the beautiful Forest of Dean. Property Owner

  • "Great location to explore Lydney, the local area and the beautiful Forest of Dean."

Unfortunately that’s where the positive stuff ends. Property was not particularly clean, the shower was overly mouldy, the shower leaks via the screen, causing a puddle of water off the floor and the toilet leaks. The blind in the bathroom is very mouldy, condensation inside the windows was bad, lots of cobwebs on the windows, glass cracked in a couple of rooms. You also hear a lot of noise from the other guests by banging doors/cupboards which is a shame as it is a beautiful building.

Thank you for your honest feedback, all points raised are under investigation and rest assured, any issue that are found will be rectified immediately. We are very happy you enjoyed the lovely Forest of Dean and look forward to welcoming you back in the future. Property Owner

  • "Our week at The Stables was most enjoyable, in spite of a couple of minor niggles."

I was initially disappointed to find that the property was on a busy main road, having been given the impression from the photographs on the website that the property was in a more rural location. However, the road traffic noise was not as intrusive as feared, and the location made it well placed for getting into Lydney for shopping and for accessing the Forest of Dean. We can recommend a look at Lydney harbour, Tintern Abbey, a walk around Cannop Ponds and a ride on the Dean Forest steam railway (audible and just visible through the trees at the rear). After a long car journey to get there, the steps up to the property to carry luggage up to the apartment were a challenge, so the generous welcome gift of snacks and treats as well as provisions for a hot drink on arrival was much appreciated. Due to the single glazing, there was condensation inside the windows on colder mornings, but this will hopefully be resolved with the addition of secondary glazing, which is intended by the owners (subject to planning permission). The apartment was nevertheless very cosy and comfortable, clean, well equipped and attractively decorated, with a quirky, eclectic collection of artwork and ornaments. We can certainly recommend a stay at The Stables.

Very many thanks for taking the time to give us some lovely feedback we really appreciate it. We are delighted you enjoyed your stay. Perhaps next time when you come and visit the Forest of Dean again may I suggest a ground floor apartment Property Owner

  • "A well located and clean cottage with a pleasant outlook."

However it was marred by a "demon" horned animal head over the bedroom door used by the young children - we had to take this down otherwise they would not sleep in this room.. The angels wings in the main bedroom were out of character with the rest of the decoration. The cutlery was well beyond its "Sell by Date". The disposal of the rubbish was confusing to say the least. With a few tweeks this could be made into an excellent cottage.

Many thanks for your feedback, it is very important to us. We are sorry that the Antelopes head upset the children but we hope you enjoyed the gardens and the wonderful Forest of Dean. A very comfortable, and well equipped apartment. The weather was very kind to us, with some of the hottest days of the year, and there is a very pretty garden, with great views, to enjoy the good weather. The description of the property is very accurate, so do heed the warnings if you have mobility problems, but there is another apartment on the ground floor, which would suit fine. A great setting for exploring the Forest of Dean and the Wye valley.

  • "We had a very enjoyable stay at the Stables."

The lounge and bedroom spaces were very comfortable and the property is positioned very conveniently for Lydney and many other places worth visiting. Also the holiday was very good value for money. Minor niggles were the boiler, which made a loud noise whenever the water was switched on and the lack of double glazing, which made the noise level higher. It bothered me a little, but not my husband. Worth mentioning that the steps up to the property are really quite steep, so no good if you have mobility issues, and as the garden wasn't immediately accessible, I found I didn't go in it, as difficult to take a drink out etc, having to manoeuvre the steep steps. On balance, however, we still enjoyed it and would consider re-visiting
