Newnham-on-Severn 1.5 miles; Gloucester 14.5 miles.
The little hamlet of Pleasant Stile is very well situated, just one and a half miles from the thriving village of Newnham, and less than 15 miles from the lovely city of Gloucester. Perched on the side of Littledean Hill, with stunning views across the meanders of the River Severn to the Cotswolds, Pleasant Stile is less than a mile from Littledean, which has a shop, Post Office and two pubs. Newnham–on-Severn has more amenities, individual shops and traditional inns. Close by is the magnificent Royal Forest of Dean, England's largest oak forest and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, offering numerous trails that can be explored on foot, bicycle or horseback. Caving, abseiling and a high wire rope course are on offer for the more adventurous, while fishing, golf, kayaking and canoeing are other popular activities in this unspoilt area. Just a short drive away, in the historic waterfront city of Gloucester, you will find Roman foundations, Victorian Docklands and a spectacular Norman Cathedral (whose cloisters were used as a location in the Harry Potter films). Visit the historic market town of Ross-on-Wye, with timbered Tudor houses and excellent shops, pubs and restaurants, in the heart of rural Herefordshire. The Severn Estuary, famous for its tidal bore, is a delight for bird watchers, wildlife enthusiasts and bore surfers alike. This unspoilt area has something to offer at any time of the year.

Wonderful warm-in-winter cottage with a magnificent view of the Severn. Lots of homely, personal touches and an interesting collection of books.

It is not possible for the photos to do this cottage justice! EVERYTHING has been thought of - plus there are some really nice welcoming touches. Plenty of board games DVDs CDs books and maps/guide books to hand. The woodburning stove is an added bonus. Fabulous location too - loads to see in the surrounding areas. We will definitely return.
Mr Riley, Rochford, February 2013
Magnificent views from every window. The sitting out area at the top of garden with views over the estuary. The owner rang us to check on our needs before the holiday. The friendly neighbour. The snug area for reading /listening to radio was a bonus. We loved the use of space in the cottage and the upstairs and downstairs bathrooms.

Gordon's View is a real home from home and the owner has thought of everything. Sitting at the top of the garden, relaxing with a cup of tea and taking in the breathtaking views was an absolute joy. Ray (next door) is a very special man and we were privileged to meet him.
