We then had there son on a lawn mower cutting grass for ages. Then on Saturday their son and friend revving up their motorbikes , finally on Sunday husband using a drummer for hours, not the quiet holiday we were hoping for. At no time did they come round and say are you out as we need to do these jobs but thought that they could have been done when we were out . The bed was very comfortable and had a good night sleep. The house did need a few jobs done on it but it was comfortable. You can get to many places from where it is situated.

The owners were on hand if needed but otherwise left us to it. We did however get a lovely greeting from Millie, the owners dog, most evenings to play ball. We stayed with our dog who had use of 2 fields throughout the stay. The cottage had all the amenities you could want and was lovely and clean. There is a local pub within easy walking distance, we had a drink there but didn't eat, although the food did look good. The cottage is ideally situated for visiting The Forest of Dean (yes we did see wild boar), Symonds Yat, and the Wye valley as a whole. All in all a fantastic cottage for a break away.

Renters need to be aware that they need to take a pen or cage for the dog. Apart from that the Stables is a very comfortable retreat. Well appointed and extremely comfortable. A beautiful setting and we even managed a Kingfisher sighting on our walks.

  • "Sheets had marks on , no heating on arrival or next day this should have been done before we arrived!"

Utensils dirty and water pressure poor looked like it hadn't been cleaned. Dead fly and cobwebs and towels that are like sandpaper definitely not worth staying here plus description (on owners grounds ) very vague I wanted to be away from other people and found out that the owner lives right on the doorstep so left earlier than planned never again disgusting.

I was anticipating a very poor review after I sent video's to Sykes to show the water pressure and heating were working as they should, and I wouldn't issue a refund. We were actually away skiing for Christmas so were only at home for the first day of the guests stay. The cottage was beautifully decorated for Christmas including a tree, fizz and added treats. I have been using Sykes since 2012 and my overall score from customer feedback is 92/100. I think anybody would agree that I wouldn't get a score like that if The Stable was dirty and I provided stained sheets. Property Owner

  • "A really nice cottage with very good facilities, in a handy position."

...... The cottage grounds, the actual cottage and the facilities were great. The cottage is a good size (2 bed) and in a handy location to get out and about. It's peaceful and secure in a small quiet village location and is just a nice area to go for gentle walks. The owner was very pleasant and helpful and the cottage is situated in a good location for nearby Ross-on-Wye, Monmouth and Hereford as well as the motorway to go further afield to places like Gloucester. All of these are worth a visit. Also, Symmonds Yat viewpoint is nearby which is spectacular. For families with children, it's a short drive to Coleford to visit Beechenhurst (walking trails, kids play park, large cafe, climbing / highwire facilities, cycling tracks), Symmonds Yat for river cruises, Cannop ponds for wooded lake side walks, and the Dean Heritage Centre which has outside space, a museum and regular craft type events in the village of Lower Soudley. *The listing advertises fishing on site, but this is not accurate and the listing really needs changing. The listing says to speak with the owner to arrange fishing from their land, into Garron Brook, but this wasn't actually an option. I spoke with her and she advised fishing elsewhere and provided contact details of a local fly fishing club. The owner did not provide an option of fishing on their land at all. This is not what I expected and was disappointing. The town stretch of the river Wye in Ross-on-Wye can be fished on a day ticket scheme, with tickets purchased from the tackle shop on Ross-on-Wye High Street. However, it's busy (as you'd imagine) with canoeists, swimmers, dogs etc. Also, the bank is very steep in most places so there are only a handful of accessible swims. It certainly looks a great spot to wet a line though, so worth considering. Overall this was another lovely family holiday away in this part of the UK. Well worth a visit.

  • "We had a very good week in this place."

The cottage is quite cosy downstairs, the beds are comfortable. It was a very warm week but we managed to keep the cottage sufficiently cool and we enjoyed having a garden at our disposition. For four adults the cottage would be a little tiny (e.g. the dining table is not so large) but for a family it was just right and the only thing we would recommend is to slightly expand the number of cups, cutlery etc. But the dishwasher was quick and quiet so this is a minor point. The owners live next to the cottage and are helpful but do not intrude. What we especially liked here is the area the cottage was situated in, which absolutely exceeded our expectations. We were planning to use the place mainly as a base to go to the Brecon Beacons, but actually we almost only stayed in the area which is at the same time very pretty, quite laid back seeming a bit overlooked by the mainstream, yet full of things to do; we walked in the beautiful and varied scenery (meandering rivers/towering cliffs/wild forests/good pubs), went cycling, canoeing and all of that within very easy reach of the cottage. When we left we concluded we could have easily stayed another week.

Thank you very much for your beautiful comments I appreciate the time you have taken to put this on. After your above comments I have made necessary changes and have replaced all soft furnishing. Also would like to inform my future guests that my dinning table is extendable but I do understand now that I need to put a note in the welcome file to aware my guests. Thank you once again for your lovely comments. You are always welcome to my cottage. Property Owner
