  • "We stayed 6 nights and this was our first holiday home rental in 8 years."

The bungalow and area exceeded our expectations in every respect. We knew Paul and Vera would be lovely hosts, ...and they were particularly understanding with our children who loved the friendly sheep dogs. The beds were all very comfortable and the house is warm, spacious, quiet and easy to keep clean. It's a great house if you have limited mobility. There are small waterfalls on the Cottoners river just 50m from the house and you can hear them constantly outside the back door. I adore the sound of a running river. The hydro track that leads to Lough Echter (300m climb) and then on to Caher and Carrauntoohil peaks (900m climb) is only 600 metres away with a spacious car park. If you have the time/energy/weather/courage to complete the horseshoe walk, you will enjoy one of the finest hikes in the whole of Ireland! And it's all right on your doorstep. We loved visiting Kate Kearney's Cottage pub with live Irish music, 7-9pm. There's the nearby Gap of Dunloe or going west there's the Ballaghbeama Gap or Ballaghasheen Pass and on to Waterville. All with stunning views and walks. We didn't find this house in any way remote...it's only 10 minutes back into Killorglin with Aldi and all the shops you need for your holiday. Killarney is only 25 mins away and the Torc waterfall nearby was stunning and only a 10 minute return walk from the car park. In summary this bungalow is a real gem, Paul and Vera have hearts of gold and as owners of our own holiday homes, we give this house, it's facilities, value and location our highest recommendation. We certainly hope to return next year!

The accommodation was perfect for our requirements and very comfortable. Vera, our host was very helpful and accommodating. I suppose the main question is, will I return in the future? The answer is a resounding, yes.

  • "Although well equipped the property is very tired and requires a good deal of maintenance ( especially the heating system which had clogged radiators and no thermostatic control) and updating."

A very isolated location that might not appeal to all ( a 15 minute drive to the nearest main road, at Killorglin). Although it is also only a 15 minute walk to the nearest lake (Lough Acosse).

Ideally located for exploring coastal Kerry. The cottage has everything you need. The hosts were very welcoming: A welcome gift was also included - milk, butter and a "Yorkshire Cake". Definitely recommended - provided you prefer a remote holiday far away from it all

  • "This is our 2nd time back at Lyreboy."

Its a lovely, airy, bright and spacious bungalow in the Kerry mountains - very near Carountoohill. It's had recent new flooring in the hall and lounge and is newly painted in the bedrooms and hallway. There's a lovely woodburner in the lounge and Vera leaves enough wood and kindling to light a few fires in the evening if you wish. It's a very quiet and rural spot so perfect for a relaxed getaway. It's quite isolated so you will need a car to get to the shops/restaurants. Vera keeps the bungalow very clean and there are all the basic essentials when you arrive like toilet roll, washing up liquid etc. She also left us a carton of milk, tea bags and a cake which was very pleasant. Vera and Paul are the owners and they live in the detached farmhouse on the same site as the bungalow so if you need anything they are on hand. Other than that they give you privacy and space for your holiday. There is no wi-fi at this property and we could rarely get a 4G signal either. I would definitely go back to this bungalow especially if they get decent Wifi - i did miss reading my newspaper every morning!

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Lyreboy."

The facilities/furnishings are basic and quite old but everything was to our satisfaction. The bungalow has big rooms (a lovely big kitchen/diner) and there is a lovely woodburner in the lounge which we enjoyed. The location of the bungalow is very rural so if you want to be near restaurants and attractions etc this is not for you (the nearest big town (Killarney) is about 40 mins drive away). On the drive down from Dublin we stopped at a Tesco on the main road and did a big shop there so we had nearly everything for the whole week. We ate out a couple of times at Waterville town (coast). There is a small supermarket there too called Fogarty's. They sell fantastic whippy ice cream, definitely worth going too if you like whippy ice creams! The cottage is very close to a trail that leads to Carantouhill which is the highest mountain in Ireland. The owner, Paul, was very kind and gave us a lift in his 4x4 half way up the trail to Caher west mountain. There is WiFi in the bungalow and we found this adequate for general browsing and surfing. Not sure if it would be good enough to watch a video with. This holiday cottage is ideal if you want a peaceful, rural getaway in the heart of this beautiful mountainous county. Paul and Vera are lovely, friendly people and will help you with any queries you may have. We would definitely recommend this holiday bungalow for a peaceful holiday in a fantastic setting.

Also close to the beautiful Gap of Dunloe and Killarney. I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone considering stay around the ring of Kerry.
