  • "Absolutely excellent place to stay for one or two people."

Very cosy indeed. It was quite amazing how much could be packed into a fairly small place.

It was ideal for the two of us and only 15mins. from family. We only intended to stay for 4 days and just managed to get home before the storm hit. When we return to East Cork we will be investigating whether Summerfield Lodge is available. Geoff. Bentham

(There is a local bar with music within crawling distance). Barbara was very helpful in suggesting places to go and see. Visited Kinsale and Skibbereen (heritage centre) and as far as Kerry (Killarney to Kenmore was very scenic). So a good base to get around. An enjoyable visit.

  • "What a great find!"

A modern apartment with everything I needed! A very helpful host and very welcome scones with jam, butter and tea, plus flowers from the garden. A really lovely view of the sea and wildlife bog from high up on the hill. Youghal is a very interesting town with a fascinating history but there are also many places to visit locally - including the cookery school at Ballymalloe! A great base from which to investigate my family history which was my primary aim. I look forward to my return stay!

Even though it was cold outside the lodge was really warm and stayed that way all week. A great place to make as a start touring or just stay in Youghal as there is always plenty going on, even on the bus route to Cork and Waterford. Great stay and we have USED IT FOR THE LAST 4 YEARS or more.

  • "This little gem of a lodge is a perfect base for two when exploring the south of Ireland - a well connected spot, with Youghal itself an interesting wee seaside town."

The long beach and boardwalk are excellent for bracing daily walks to prepare for sampling the many restaurants offering good hearty Irish produce! We had a great time here. The lodge is carefully decorated in a modern style with muted colours and relaxing ambience. Everything I wanted was in the kitchen - from a garlic press to a potato masher - and all the basics were in stock ; oil, salt, pepper ketchup etc. There was even washing powder and conditioner for the washing machine. This attention to detail made the Lodge stand out amongst others we have visited. Additionally, there is good mobile reception and dependable wi-fi - not always the norm in Irish cottages! We were warm and cosy sitting at the table in the picture windows enjoying the most fantastic views out to the sweeping bay, with gorgeous sunrises and sunsets. The owners made us very welcome, and were close if needed but never intrusive. Barbara’s gift basket of scones, butter and jam laid out for our arrival set the tone for how warm and welcoming we found this place. A fabulous holiday lodge!

  • "Our hosts, Barbara & Peter Murray, were lovely people who made sure we were happy with our accommodation and everything in general."

We were greeted with a scone, butter and jam some milk and tea, which was very welcome after our mission of a trip to get to there. They were on hand but never intrusive and were informative of the local area and further afield. The apartment was small and compact but was just right for two people and we had enough space for the two weeks we were there. The only thing lacking was a DVD player but we brought our own along as we came by car. The views were wonderful and we ate our meals looking out and enjoying them. Youghal was a charming seaside town that has seen some difficult times but is determined to thrive and it does very well. The beach is good and there are notable places to eat and drink. The town is well served by three large supermarkets. We had wonderful weather during our stay and even managed a few days on the beach. We love Ireland and the Irish people are so friendly and welcoming. We hope to go back one day.

  • "In my opinion the way the cottage was portrayed on your website was misleading."

It gives the impression of a decent sized open plan kitchen/lounge when in fact it is absolutely tiny. The 15" screen television is wall mounted nearly at ceiling height and the sound was poor. There were cobwebs throughout the cottage. The cleanliness of the "ensuite" shower and toilet was of a very poor standard. The floor was filthy, the shower screens and tile grouting were covered in mould and there were cobwebe all over from the top to the bottom. I met Mrs Murray once, just briefly, and did not feel welcomed at all. The only good point was the bed was extremely comfortable and the bed linen and towels could not be faulted. I think it is fair to say, therefore, we will not be considering a return visit and would never recommend this property to anyone.

The beach was wonderful and only a short walk away. Also only a short walk away the greyhound racing was a new experience for us which we really enjoyed. Lots to see and do around Youghal itself - steeped in history. We also visited Dungarvan, the Jameson Distillery at Midleton, and Cobh, where The Heritage Centre and the Titanic Experience are both well worth visiting, especially if you have ancestors who emigrated. Only disappointment was there was no fish to catch!
