The twin villages of Ballyvourney and Ballymakerra and the nearby village of Coolea in County Cork are all situated in the Irish speaking area of Muscrai Gaeltacht on the N22, the primary route from Cork to Killarney. Ballyvourney offers a pub and restaurant, whilst Ballymakerra has a coffee shop, Post Office, supermarkets and a playground. The tiny village of Coolea has a swimming pool, with lessons available during the summer months. The area surrounding these villages is widely recognised as an important cultural centre for the Irish language, music and art.
