We cannot find fault with anything. Thanks to the caring cottage owners. Fantastic place to stay.

  • "Points we enjoyed - Very cozy and easy to warm up, great WiFi very fast, bed is extremely comfy, secluded and private, pet friendly, good size bath tub and shower."

Issues that could use improvement - 1)The tv is very old and tiny. Couldn’t use our fire stick for movie nights and very far away from the couch so we had to use our laptop. 2)no coffee table in the living room for work to be done on the couch or laptop use. 3)hot water for the bath is very temperamental, turning the tap on quickly causes cold water. Only way we found for hot was to have the water dribble out. Clearly an issue with the boiler 4)although the description is very clear but it is very close to the road and the gate to the main road is a farm gate so dogs can easily get through it. So please be mindful about that. All in all we really enjoyed our stay and these were simply minor issues. Thank you and all the best :)

  • "We've enjoyed a week's break in this wee cottage."

It's cozy and fine for a couple or lone traveller. The location is quiet despite being just off a busy local road and it's central for many local walks and attractions and within a 90 minute drive to places and attractions further afield. The landscape is stunning and the local people in the shops and pubs are welcoming and friendly. Gortin has all you need for local top-up provisions and is a 5 minute drive or 15 minute walk through the estate. The owner popped in to see how we were getting on. One wee thing: the bedroom could do with a mirror if you're in need of one. A week wasn't enough for us and we'd happily return.

Hello Bill Thank you for your feedback. We are glad you enjoyed your stay. The area is beautiful and Gortin town is great. We hope to welcome you back in the future. Property Owner

Which has not come back since we both left the cottage. Spoke to the owner for directions prior to this, found him Clipped and unhelpful.

The cottage was warm and cosy. It was just a matter of turning radiators up and lighting the fire for extra cosines. The bathroom is quite large, but this was also kept warm. As far as equipment is concerned, a knife sharpener would be needed as all kitchen knives were very blunt and difficult to use. All in all a very happy place to stay.

It is very clean, spacious, and a lot more facilities/utensils than I was expecting. There was a very minor issue, which was rectified by the owner extremely quickly, who was very friendly and came with scones and jam. However the most incredible aspect was the location of the cottage; 1) you could open up the half door listen to the river flow and watch the stars 2) walk beside the cottage through the trees into the village was amazing, a short walk but took a little while as you had to stop and stare at the beautiful setting. 3) beautifully quiet at night, such you could look at the fire (plenty of wood provided) and listen to the clock tick 4) easy access to the amazing Ulster way walks towards the Sperrin mountains. Only realised after I left, I stayed there as a female on my own and never even once occurred to me to worry about safety. Perfect place will definitely be back.

Compact but everything 2 people could need. Good location, ideal for touring both NI & ROI. I feel a little bit of tlc is now required however, perhaps a lick of fresh paint internally. Cottage suited us and was in a perfect location for cycling around the Sperrins with many routes starting right from the front gate, bonus of having a bath for relaxing in afterwards. We were surprised that the cottage was on the main road between Plumbridge and Gortin which got quite busy but it was very quiet at night and it is in the middle of stunning countryside with plenty of narrow country lanes to explore. Great for active outdoor activities such as walking, cycling and fishing.

  • "What a beautiful place Gortin is."

Cute little village, river running at the front, cattle in the field. We took some great photos of the curious cows. Gortin has a new café open where we had breakfast on the Sunday. Fabulous and well worth a visit and we were disappointed we didn't make it back there. We had a fantastic holiday, travelling all over Northern Ireland, good central location and we had the best weather. The basket of tourism leaflets were useful. However, our overall impression of the cottage was 'a little disappointed'. It could do with a little tlc, both inside and outside. Definitely needs an extra light around the back for the bins, and the windows all need a quick brush down. There is a musty smell as you enter the cottage which could be damp. Its a little dated and basic. No welcome package....perhaps we have been spoilt with our previous bookings with Sykes? However, that aside, there were some things left by previous holiday makers. We did throw the stale biscuits away though which then meant we were unsure how long everything else had been there!? There are a couple of well stocked shops in Gortin. Bit of a shortage of towels. We were a couple and got one hand towel, one bath towel and a bath sheet (described as towels provided??)....luckily since it was our first time here I brought flannels and hand towels which we needed. No hand towel in the toilet either and a lack of toilet roll holders-also the toilet brush is broken, not that I wanted to use it, it needs to be binned. Lots of hot water, good woodburner (described as an open fire) The curtains in the bathroom get in the way a bit - a blind would be better. Good separate shower - (described as shower over?) Bedroom was a good size, plenty of room but not impressed by the bag of (dirty??) towels and sheets at the bottom of the wardrobe or the drawers full up of cushions and pillows. We didn't use the washing machine, iron or dishwasher - but I don't remember seeing any tablets/powder, which you don't really want to be buying if you are on holiday? Torch provided needs new batteries. Overall we had such a good a holiday and we were out over 12 hours a day so we were comfortable enough. However, when we return to Northern Ireland, which we fully intend to do, its likely we will be booking a different property.

Good powerful shower. It does need updating. The cooker is ancient and needs replacing. The sofa in the sitting area needs replacing. Although the cottage was clean, the pillows were very brown and discoloured - very off-putting. There is a general damp, musty smell on returning to the cottage, although it is warm and cosy inside. Now the cottage, we were emailed details by the owner and even had a visit by her husband bringing a bottle of wine. Had a good chat with him over a cup of tea which was neat. Later in the week were invited and went for a drink at their home. The cottage is for two people because of its size but everything is there, good heating, plenty of hot water, fire place, washing machine and a good sized double bed. A few minutes drive to the wee village of Gortin and easy drive to larger places such as Derry and Omagh. We stayed for a week and if you want a decent break in Northern Ireland then Mr McGrgors cottage is a very good start. Would we come back? I think we would as everything we wanted/needed was right there. Thank you Sykes and the owners.
