The property

Oughterard 2 miles.

A lovely detached cottage on the rural outskirts of Oughterard, in County Galway.

This hidden gem has been lovingly restored by the owners, literally from the ground up and is superb both internally and externally.

Outside this Oughterard cottage, a combination of render and stone with a slate roof creates a picture-perfect property but it is the inside that will really impress.

The open plan living area of this Oughterard cottage offers a modern shaker-style kitchen flowing through a dining area into a tiled living room with pot-bellied woodburner, drawing the eye up the chimney to the full height of the vaulted ceiling.

Access to the upstairs bedroom and en-suite is by a bespoke circular wrought-iron staircase, leading to a mezzanine balcony that allows you to appreciate the simplicity and style of the living room below.

The countryside around this Oughterard cottage is just as stunning, and the Western Way runs directly outside.

Lough Corrib is less than 2.5 miles away, and Oughterard is your gateway to cruises on this stunning lake, the largest in the Republic of Ireland.

The surrounding countryside of open moorland and mountain scenery will take your breath away, whether you choose to explore by cycle or foot or even in a vintage car - the owner of your Oughterard cottage is a keen vintage car enthusiast himself, and if you are lucky enough to own one of these beautiful cars, this Oughterard cottage may be the perfect place to take it for a spin.

However you choose to enjoy your days out, this lovely Oughterard cottage is the perfect place to return to.

    • “An excellent choice for us.”

    • “This is a delightful cottage, especially for couples although it can accommodate 4 using a bed settee. It is in excellent order with a great kitchen to cook in, which is not always the case in holiday cottages. The cottage has been rebuilt from the ground up and everything in it is high quality. It has oil central heating and a woodburning stove and we were warm and cosy during a really cold spell in March. We could not have made a better choice and it was excellent value for money. The spiral staircase might not be suitable for some people with disabilities. The lovely owners live nearby and were really helpful. The area is stunning and we had a wonderful week in Ned Darcy's cottage. Thank you and best wishes to everyone concerned in the running of this beautiful cottage.”

    • “Lovely quiet setting”
    • tripadvisor rating
    • “Cottage was spotless when we arrived. The owners were nice people and very helpful. The setting is very rural and peaceful with a lovely back garden. (We left a couple folding chairs for those who like to sit outside, as none were provided.) There is no wifi at the cottage, so if you feel you can't do without it, plan to buy an overseas data plan, or spend some quality time in a pub with wifi. Nice kitchen - cookware, dishes and silverware are provided, and the water from the tap tasted better than any bottled water could hope to. Cooking was easy once we figured out how the appliances worked. The washer/dryer is just that - a machine that both washes and dries. The dryer part doesn't work, though and it's very small. There is a launderette service in the village (not do it yourself - you leave your washing with them). Instant heat in the shower was wonderful. only negative is the mattress - it needs replacing. As another reviewer stated, you could feel every spring - but we were so tired from the day's adventures we slept well, anyway.”

    • “My wife and I stayed a week at this splendid cottage.. It is very modern inside and done to a high standard.... There is a problem with the bed though, you can feel the springs which I found to be very uncomfortable, and the sofa bed downstairs is not very comfy for sitting on and relaxing after a day of sightseeing......Otherwise it was very good”

About the location

Galway 17 miles.

The traditional village of Oughterard is found in the west of Ireland on the shores of Lough Corrib, at the start of the Connemara Mountain range and close to the famous Western Way. Home to the Oughterard 18-hole championship golf course, Derroura Mountain Bike Trail and Aughnanure Castle, there are lots of things to see and do, and located next to Lough Corrib, Oughterard is great for lovers of fishing. Just a short drive away in Roscahil is the pretty Brigit's Garden; with four main gardens and places to play, sit and relax, this is a great day out for all the family. Only 17 miles from Oughterard lies Galway City, where you can discover some of Ireland's long and varied history; visit Lynch's Castle, or trace the origin of the famous Claddagh Ring, which originated in a village near the shore of Galway Bay. A lovely lough-side village, all year round.
