Foxford is a delightful town situated on the River Moy in County Mayo. Foxford is well known as a tourist centre and has a variety of traditional pubs, restaurants and shops. Nestled between the Ox and Nephin Mountains, the town caters for a range of outdoor activities such as walking, mountain biking and fishing. The Foxford Way is an 86km long trail which takes in the Ox Mountains, archaeological sites, boglands and river banks. For fishing enthusiasts, the River Moy offers salmon fishing, whilst nearby Loughs Conn and Cullin provide opportunities for Brown Trout fishing. Further afield are the towns of Ballina and Castlebar and the Ballycroy National Park, all suitable for a day trip.

The Property

Foxford 4 miles. A cosy, detached 1930s bungalow lovingly refurbished and located just 4 miles from the lively tourist town of Foxford, County Mayo. Rich in character with thick stone walls, this Foxford cottage offers comfortable accommodation for families or friends keen to experience the rugged beauty of the west of Ireland and beyond. Relax with a good book or a glass of wine on the sunny patio area and let the far-reaching rural views ease your cares away. Those wishing to ‘get away from it all’ will appreciate the relative seclusion of this Foxford cottage, but the area also has plenty to offer those seeking a livelier break. The popular town of Westport, famed for its restaurants, pubs and traditional Irish music, is just 40 minutes’ drive, while the National Museum of Country Life in Castlebar, Swinford town and fishing on Lough Conn are all even closer. Just a short drive from this Foxford cottage is the superb secluded beach of Lacken Sands as well as the seaside resort town of Enniscrone, a great day out for the kids. Hikers can enjoy mountains, rivers, lakes and breathtaking scenery along the renowned Foxford Way, a fantastic 50 mile-long walking track, perhaps stopping in Foxford, Straide or the pretty fishing village of Pontoon for a pint of the black stuff to quench your thirst along the way! Take in the wonderfully distinctive earthy aroma of the traditional Irish turf fires as you explore the area, before returning home to build your own in the hearth of this wonderful Foxford cottage.
